Job description

A rapidly growing international data center developer, owner and operator is seeking a Power Development Lead to support the continued expansion of its U.S. data center portfolio

The company develops, acquires and operates large-scale data centers for major technology and enterprise customers. It is now expanding its power-development capabilities to deliver generation and energy infrastructure colocated with its existing and future data center campuses.

The Role

The VP, Power Development will lead the origination and development of power-generation and energy-infrastructure projects colocated with the company’s data center portfolio.

This individual will identify, evaluate and advance grid-connected, behind-the-meter and dedicated generation solutions capable of supporting large-scale data center demand.

The role will work closely with data center development, acquisitions, engineering, construction, finance and commercial teams, as well as utilities, system operators, landowners, regulators and external development partners.

Key Responsibilitities
  • Lead the origination and development of power projects supporting large-scale data center campuses
  • Identify and evaluate grid-connected, behind-the-meter and dedicated generation opportunities
  • Assess projects across site control, fuel supply, interconnection, transmission, permitting, technology, cost and development timelines
  • Develop power strategies aligned with data center capacity requirements and delivery schedules Lead utility, system-operator and large-load interconnection engagement
  • Evaluate natural gas generation, renewable energy, battery storage and hybrid power solutions
  • Secure land, permits, interconnection rights, fuel arrangements and other critical development rights
  • Negotiate development agreements, joint ventures and other complex commercial arrangements
  • Coordinate technical, environmental, regulatory, financial and commercial due diligence
  • Manage engineers, consultants, attorneys and specialist advisors
  • Prepare project budgets, schedules, risk assessments and investment recommendations
  • Support projects through internal approval and transition into engineering and construction
  • Coordinate closely with data center development teams to align power and campus delivery
  • Direct experience developing power solutions specifically for data centers is essential; candidates without data center power-development experience will not be considered
  • 5+ years of experience in power development, energy infrastructure or large-scale project development
  • Demonstrated experience advancing data center power strategies involving natural gas generation, nuclear power, behind-the-meter generation, colocated generation, microgrids, battery storage, hybrid power systems or utility-supplied capacity
  • Strong understanding of how power availability, interconnection, generation, transmission and delivery timelines affect data center development
  • Experience working with data center developers, hyperscalers, colocation providers, utilities, independent power producers or energy-infrastructure platforms
  • Experience leading utility engagement, large-load interconnection, transmission planning and power-delivery strategy
  • Experience advancing complex power projects from origination through permitting, commercial structuring, construction readiness or execution
  • Experience negotiating development agreements, interconnection agreements, power arrangements, joint ventures or other complex commercial agreements
  • Ability to evaluate technical, financial, regulatory, fuel-supply and execution risks
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams across development, engineering, legal, finance, construction and external consultants
  • Strong commercial judgement, communication, negotiation and project-management skills
