About The Role

We're seeking a VP of Legal to serve as our internal legal cornerstone, driving cost savings and proactive risk management across all business functions. You'll take ownership of legal matters spanning product, operations, customer experience, and marketing while reducing reliance on external counsel. You'll be the strategic legal partner who translates complex regulatory requirements into actionable frameworks, enabling teams to move quickly and confidently. This position offers the opportunity to build comprehensive legal infrastructure while supporting our high-growth trajectory in the consumer wellness space. This role will report directly to our CEO.

This role is part of our remote HQ! We have a fully remote, high-trust work environment - and also come together on a bi-annual basis for amazing off-sites where we can connect IRL.

In this role, you will:

  • Establish legal ownership across all functions, streamlining workflows and reducing reliance on external counsel
  • Create proactive legal risk and compliance strategies, shifting from reactive to preventive approaches
  • Lead contract system overhaul, developing standardized templates and negotiation guidelines
  • Own global trademark and IP strategy, securing registrations and resolving brand conflicts
  • Support fundraising events, managing legal diligence and executing required documentation
  • Provide regulatory guidance on FTC, FDA, and BBB compliance for supplement and consumer products
  • Evaluate health claims substantiation for marketing materials, working with R&D to develop compliant claim language
  • Protect proprietary formulations and product names through strategic IP filings and defending against infringement
  • Develop litigation defense strategies and risk management frameworks to minimize class-action lawsuit exposure

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has 10 + years of legal experience with expertise in commercial contracts, IP, and regulatory compliance
  • Brings experience from high-growth consumer brands, preferably supplement space
  • Has owned legal work across multiple functions and demonstrates expertise in FTC, FDA, and BBB frameworks
  • Has specialized knowledge of health claims regulations, including structure/function claims, qualified health claims, and the scientific evidence standards required for substantiation
  • Understands product liability insurance and how to structure business operations to reduce litigation risk
  • Brings IP law expertise with experience protecting formulations, ingredient combinations, and product trademarks in the supplements industry
  • Has litigation and risk management experience, preferably defending supplement companies against class-action suits and developing strategies to minimize legal exposure
  • Understands product liability insurance and structuring operations to reduce legal exposure

  • Balances legal protection with business velocity, understanding when calculated risks are appropriate
  • Proactively assesses claims substantiation to ensure marketing materials are both compelling and compliant
  • Takes strategic approach to IP protection, understanding both scientific and commercial value of formulations
