Job summary

Storm4 Energy is seeking an experienced Owner's Engineer to lead the engineering lifecycle for utility-scale battery energy storage systems in the United States. You will own interconnection strategy, ERCOT coordination, and EPC oversight, becoming the technical authority across design, testing, and commissioning.

You will interface with utilities, TDSPs, EPCs, and regulators, shaping standards and ensuring adherence to project timelines. A strong engineering leadership presence is essential.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of power systems engineering experience in utility-scale projects such as battery storage, renewables, EPC, or grid interconnection
  • Strong experience with ERCOT interconnection processes including RIOO/INR submissions, SGIAs, utility coordination, and interconnection studies
  • Utility-scale BESS experience strongly preferred
  • Ability to review and produce electrical engineering deliverables including single-line diagrams, protection schemes, grounding studies, and equipment specifications
  • Experience managing EPC contractors, engineering consultants, and third-party technical reviews
  • Proficiency with power system simulation tools including PSS/E, PSCAD, ETAP, or similar
  • Experience supporting commissioning, testing, and commercial operation of inverter-based resources
  • Licensed PE preferred
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present to utilities, project partners, and regulators

Responsibilities

  • Lead ERCOT interconnection activities from application through energization, including RIOO/INR submissions, study management, and utility coordination
  • Serve as the primary technical interface with ERCOT, TDSPs, electric cooperatives, EPC contractors, OEMs, and consultants
  • Review and negotiate SGIAs, system impact studies, facilities studies, and utility operating requirements
  • Own key electrical engineering deliverables including single-line diagrams, equipment specifications, grounding studies, protection coordination, and system design
  • Manage power system modelling requirements using tools such as PSS/E and PSCAD, ensuring compliance with ERCOT and utility requirements
  • Act as Owner's Engineer during EPC execution, reviewing engineering packages, equipment submittals, commissioning plans, and contractor deliverables
  • Lead commissioning, energization, factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), and commercial operation activities
  • Support site selection, interconnection diligence, constructability reviews, and development-stage engineering assessments
  • Build and implement internal engineering standards and best practices as the company scales

Job description

This is an exceptional opportunity to join a fast-growing energy platform developing and operating utility-scale battery energy storage projects across ERCOT. You'll serve as the company's in-house Owner's Engineer and technical authority, leading projects from interconnection application through energization, commissioning, and commercial operation.

This role offers significant ownership and visibility, with direct influence over project design, interconnection strategy, EPC execution, utility engagement, and the company's long-term engineering standards.

Job Responsibilities:
