Job summary

Subway seeks a Vice President of Engineering to lead the franchisee-facing engineering org, including POS, menu management, and payments. You’ll own strategy, budget, and org design for a team of roughly 50, partnering with the CTO and product leaders to turn roadmaps into measurable results

This is a full-scope leadership role focused on outcomes, cost discipline, and building a durable, scalable engineering culture across in-store and digital touchpoints.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in engineering leadership.
• Direct ownership of an engineering budget - headcount, tooling, cloud spend.
• Experience designing and evolving org structure as teams scale.
• Direct experience delivering consumer-facing mobile applications; React Native experience strongly preferred.
• Hands-on architecture experience on AWS, including serverless and containerized services (Lambda, Fargate, DynamoDB).
• Experience leading engineering for multi-unit retail or restaurant scale.
• Proven track record on building people capabilities - hiring, developing, retaining.
• Strong partnership with product/marketing/business stakeholders to defend cost and priorities.

Responsibilities

• Lead the engineering organization behind franchisee-facing in-restaurant experiences (POS, menu management, payments).
• Own technical strategy, engineering budget, and org design for a team of ~50 engineers.
• Set architecture direction across franchisee engineering teams and oversee roadmap delivery.
• Manage incident response, code quality standards, and security practices.
• Partner with CTO and product leadership to translate business goals into engineering OKRs.
