We are seeking a Vice President of Engineering to lead technical due diligence on potential investments and provide technical advisory support to our portfolio companies. The VP of Engineering should be comfortable evaluating complex deep tech innovations across multiple domains, conducting rigorous technical assessments, and providing hands‑on technical guidance to founders building breakthrough science and engineering companies.

The right candidate will bring a mix of deep technical expertise across multiple scientific domains, significant experience in startup engineering leadership, and the natural ability to rapidly build trust with technical founders. An exceptional VP of Engineering will relish the challenge of seamlessly balancing conducting due diligence on cutting‑edge technologies, advising portfolio companies on technical challenges, and mentoring founding teams in building world‑class engineering organizations.

We are looking for someone who has substantial deep tech startup experience to combine with exceptional technical judgment and people skills as one of the technical leaders of Prime Movers Lab. Responsibilities

• Lead technical due diligence on potential investments across energy, transportation, infrastructure, manufacturing, human augmentation, and agriculture
• Conduct deep technical assessments of breakthrough technologies, evaluating scientific feasibility, technical risks, and competitive positioning
• Advise portfolio companies on technical roadmaps, architecture decisions, and engineering best practices
• Support portfolio companies in hiring technical talent and building high‑performing engineering teams
• Develop and maintain relationships with technical experts and advisors across our investment domains
• Ensure public speeches at technical conferences to build the Prime Movers Lab reputation as the most founder‑friendly and technically sophisticated venture capital firm
• Note: This role is fully remote

Requirements

• Deep technical expertise with advanced degrees (MS or PhD preferred) in engineering, physical sciences, or computer science
• 8+ years experience in deep tech startups in engineering leadership roles (VP Engineering, Engineering Director, Technical Lead, or equivalent)
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate novel technologies and conduct technical due diligence across diverse scientific domains
• Strong track record of building and scaling engineering teams at startups
• Demonstrated ability to reason from first principles and quickly learn new technical domains
• Flexible availability with a startup attitude of intense dedication
