Job summary

Jobtailor, based in the Bay Area, seeks an experienced Head of Engineering to lead a distributed team across the US and India. You will design and deliver high-quality software, align engineering with product roadmaps, and champion security throughout development.

You will mentor engineers, set standards, and partner with executives to scale the company’s B2B SaaS platform while maintaining a strong security posture and efficient delivery.

Job description

• Lead the engineering team in designing and delivering high-quality software solutions
• Lead and scale a distributed engineering organization spanning Palo Alto and Bangalore
• Build systems and trust for a cross-continent team to operate as one
• Develop and implement engineering processes and standards for consistency and quality
• Collaborate with the CEO and senior leaders on technology strategy
• Manage and allocate resources to deliver projects on time and within budget
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship
• Review architecture decisions and unblock difficult technical problems
• Build and maintain an innovative, continuously improving engineering culture across the US and India
• Monitor emerging software engineering trends and recommend tools and methodologies
• Partner with Product on roadmaps and align engineering resources with priorities
• Champion secure SDLC practices from design through deployment
• Ensure adherence to secure coding standards and principles including least privilege, defense in depth, and zero trust
• Ensure sensitive data is securely handled using encryption, tokenization, and data masking as appropriate
• Lead engineering response to security incidents, including containment, resolution, and stakeholder communication
• Drive root cause analysis and implement incident lessons learned

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
• At least 8 years of experience in software engineering
• At least 5 years in an engineering leadership role
• Track record of progressing from a hands-on technical role into engineering leadership
• Experience joining an early-stage B2B SaaS company and growing through significant scale
• Ideally 5+ years at one company, progressing from individual contributor through senior leadership
• Proven track record of delivering high-quality software solutions on time and within budget
• Strong technical skills in software development, architecture, and design
• Experience managing and mentoring large engineering teams
• Experience building or closely partnering with an engineering team based in India
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and senior leaders
• Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
• Startup experience strongly preferred; comfortable in a lean, fast-moving Series B environment
• Background in security, infrastructure, or data-intensive systems
• Direct security engineering experience is a strong plus
• Based in the Bay Area, with a hybrid work rhythm
• Experience at a cybersecurity or data security SaaS company is a nice to have
• Experience with data infrastructure or large-scale data processing systems is a nice to have
• Track record shipping AI/ML-powered features in production is a nice to have
• Authorized to work in the US without sponsorship
