MacroCycle is seeking a VP of Business Development to lead and scale our global brand and supply chain partnerships. You will own end-to-end relationships from initial conversations to long-term supply agreements, aligning on quality, cost, certifications, and reliability to drive commercial strategy.
With 15+ years in textiles or related sectors, you’ll leverage a deep brand network, manage cross-functional teams, and guide R&D, quality, and operations toward scalable partnerships and long-term
Location: Cambridge, MA / Hybrid / Remote
Reports to: CEO
Direct report: Head of Partnerships
At MacroCycle, we’re building a new approach to textile recycling. Today, most textiles end up in landfills or are incinerated, but our SolvoGenesis™ technology transforms that waste back into high-quality polyester fibers. By closing the loop on polyester, we’re helping to reduce landfill waste, lower production emissions, and move the textile industry toward a truly circular future.
The VP of Business Development will lead and scale our global brand and supply chain partnerships function. This person will oversee the full arc of a brand relationship, from first conversation to executing signed, long-term supply agreements. You’ll be the link between our technology and the brands that will put MacroTEX™ into their products, turning their needs on quality, cost, certifications, and reliability into a commercial roadmap.
Identify, prioritize, and cultivate relationships with global apparel and textile brands and their respective suppliers (Tier 3, 2, 1) as commercial partners, building upon and expanding our qualified pipeline
Lead the end-to-end partnership journey from structuring and negotiating material trials to qualification programs and pilot runs, and advancing successful partners toward multi-year supply agreements
Own the technical commercial dialogue with brand material development and quality teams and their mill and converter partners, aligning on specifications, trial protocols, and test methods, and knowing which gaps are solvable today versus on the roadmap
Translate brand requirements on quality specifications, certifications, volume ramps, pricing structures, and timelines into clear priorities the R&D and operations teams can plan against
Develop the commercial frameworks, proposals, and contract structures needed to move partners from trial to long-term commitment, working closely with leadership on deal terms
Build repeatable processes and communication materials (pitch decks, trial protocols, qualification checklists) that make it easier for brands to say yes and easier for MacroCycle to advance partnerships down the pipeline
Represent MacroCycle at industry events, trade shows, and with key ecosystem stakeholders to build the company’s reputation and network within the fashion and textile industry
Directly manage our Head of Partnerships, who will work closely with you on day-to-day brand engagement and partnership structuring, and grow the commercial team as partnerships scale
Leading our Commercialization work, you’ll establish MacroCycle as a trusted, long-term material partner for the world’s leading brands, and have significant input on our commercial roadmap and go-to-market strategy.
You have 15+ years of experience in the textile, apparel, or materials industry, ideally within a global fashion or apparel brand’s sourcing, material innovation, or sustainability, or in a consulting role serving those functions
You bring an existing network of senior relationships at global apparel and fashion brands you can engage directly, and a proven track record of turning those relationships into commercial outcomes
You know the ins and outs of the textile supply chain, from raw materials to fiber and yarn through fabric, manufacturing, and finished goods, and you understand where and how an innovator like MacroCycle fits into it
You know what it takes to get a new material adopted: what a trial needs to prove, how qualification and approval processes work, and what moves a brand from testing to committing at scale
You can hold your own with a brand’s material development and quality teams on polymer and chip specs (IV, moisture, color, contaminants), spinning, filament and yarn, knit and woven development, and dyeing and finishing (dye uptake, shade consistency, colorfastness)
You’ve personally negotiated and closed multi-year supply, offtake, or strategic partnership agreements. You know how to structure volume commitments, pricing mechanics, long-term supply contracts, and quality and delivery terms, and how to drive a deal through a large brand’s legal and procurement process.
You thrive in ambiguity and want to build out a commercial function, starting with an existing partnerships team and scaling from there, with the ownership and accountability that comes with an early-stage startup
You’ve managed and mentored commercial talent, and you’re energized by making the people around you more effective by coaching on deal strategy, sharing your network, and giving your team room to own relationships
You value working in a collaborative, low-ego, high-integrity environment
Experience bringing a recycled, bio-based, or otherwise novel material into a brand’s supply chain, including familiarity with certifications (e.g., GRS) or LCA data used in brand evaluations
Startup or fast-paced commercial build-out experience
Experienced in sales & marketing of materials
Advancing our pipeline of brand conversations across target segments
Converting a meaningful number of trial and pilot engagements into signed, binding collaborative agreements. Even more successful if they are offtake agreements.
Establishing a repeatable, well-documented process for how a brand moves from first conversation to trial to commercial commitment
Becoming the internal voice of the customer, shaping R&D, quality, and operations priorities based on what brand partners actually need
Helping shape a resilient, mission-aligned culture as an early member of the commercial team
At MacroCycle, we’re building a culture rooted in safety, communication, optimism, innovation, stewardship, and resilience. We celebrate diverse backgrounds and believe the best ideas come from thoughtful collaboration and healthy debate. We take our mission seriously, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously.
3 weeks PTO (increasing to 4 weeks after year 1), plus 11 paid holidays and a paid company closure between Christmas and New Year’s
Premier medical, dental, and vision insurance
Commuter stipend and annual BlueBikes membership
Competitive and experience-guided compensation, including equity
Retirement savings platform
Regular team lunches and office snacks
MacroCycle is committed to building a diverse, inclusive team and provides equal employment opportunities to all applicants and employees regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic.
