$120,000.00/yr - $160,000.00/yr
As a Middle Market Commercial Credit Underwriter, you will be responsible for independently underwriting and analyzing credit requests for middle market commercial clients. You will partner closely with Relationship Managers to assess borrower risk and structure sound credit solutions that align with the bank’s risk appetite and credit policies. This role requires strong financial acumen, attention to detail, and the ability to make reasoned recommendations under tight timelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze complex financial statements, cash flow models, collateral, and industry risk for new and existing middle market clients (typically $10MM–$250MM in annual revenue).
- Prepare detailed, well-reasoned credit write-ups and risk ratings in accordance with bank policies and regulatory guidelines.
- Collaborate with Relationship Managers and Portfolio Managers to structure and recommend credit solutions that balance client needs with sound risk management.
- Monitor portfolio performance and provide periodic credit reviews, identifying early warning signs of deterioration and recommending mitigation strategies.
- Present credit analyses to loan committees and respond to inquiries from internal stakeholders and regulators.
- Stay current on market trends, industry developments, and regulatory changes impacting the middle market lending landscape.
- Mentor junior underwriters and assist with training as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field (MBA or CFA preferred).
- 5+ years of commercial credit underwriting experience, with a strong focus on middle market lending.
- Expertise in credit analysis, financial modeling, and credit structuring.
- Solid understanding of commercial loan products, including lines of credit, term loans, real estate, and asset-based lending.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate credit rationale clearly and concisely.
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and common credit risk tools; experience with Moody’s Risk Analyst, spreading software, or similar platforms is a plus.
