Vice President of Mechanical Construction
Position Overview
We are seeking an accomplished Vice President of Mechanical Construction to provide executive leadership and strategic direction for a growing mechanical construction business. This individual will oversee major projects and operations, lead high-performing teams, strengthen client relationships, and drive profitable growth across complex construction sectors.
The successful candidate will bring extensive experience leading large-scale mechanical construction operations, with a strong track record in areas such as data centers, mission critical, advanced technology, healthcare, life sciences, industrial, energy, or other complex commercial projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide executive leadership and strategic direction for the mechanical construction division, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives and growth plans.
- Lead and oversee multiple large-scale mechanical construction projects from preconstruction through commissioning and closeout.
- Drive operational excellence across project execution, safety, quality, schedule, productivity, and profitability.
- Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing leadership team, including Operations Directors, Project Executives, Project Managers, Superintendents, and other key personnel.
- Partner with preconstruction and estimating teams to review major pursuits, develop winning strategies, manage risk, and support successful project acquisition.
- Maintain executive-level relationships with key clients, general contractors, developers, engineers, subcontractors, and industry partners.
- Take ownership of the division's P&L performance, including revenue growth, margins, forecasting, backlog, and resource planning.
- Identify and pursue new market opportunities, clients, and strategic partnerships to support continued expansion.
- Oversee manpower planning, workforce development, recruitment, and succession planning across the mechanical organization.
- Ensure projects are delivered safely and in accordance with company quality standards, contractual requirements, and client expectations.
- Provide executive oversight of project risk, commercial issues, change management, claims, and dispute resolution.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to establish annual business plans, financial targets, and long-term growth strategies.
- Drive continuous improvement through enhanced processes, technology, prefabrication, productivity initiatives, and best practices.
- Represent the company at client meetings, industry events, executive presentations, and business development activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred.
- 15+ years of progressive experience in mechanical construction, including significant senior leadership or executive-level responsibility.
- Proven experience managing large-scale mechanical construction operations and complex, high-value projects.
- Strong understanding of HVAC, plumbing, process piping, mechanical systems, and related construction methodologies.
- Demonstrated experience managing substantial P&L responsibility, revenue, backlog, and operational performance.
- Experience leading projects within mission critical, data center, advanced technology, healthcare, life sciences, industrial, or similarly complex sectors is highly desirable.
- Strong background in preconstruction, estimating, project execution, contract management, and risk mitigation.
- Proven ability to build and lead high-performing teams while creating a culture of accountability, safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Exceptional client relationship management, communication, negotiation, and executive presentation skills.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to identify growth opportunities and successfully scale operations.
