Overview

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a VP, Game Engineering in the United States.

As the VP of Game Engineering, you will lead the strategic direction, growth, and excellence of engineering across a portfolio of mobile-first, free-to-play live service games. This role combines visionary leadership with deep technical insight, ensuring teams have the tools, systems, and workflows to build and scale high-quality games quickly and sustainably. You’ll work closely with studio leadership, technical directors, and cross-functional partners to align engineering priorities with business goals while nurturing innovation, collaboration, and performance across distributed teams.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and evolve the global game engineering organization, establishing strong leadership structures and collaborative workflows across studios.
  • Mentor and guide Technical Directors, empowering them to lead with autonomy and drive technical excellence.
  • Define and implement efficient development frameworks, tools, and processes that streamline production and live service operations.
  • Oversee the evolution of shared client-side technology, including Unity integrations and reusable systems, ensuring reliability and scalability.
  • Champion high standards for code quality, performance, documentation, and maintainability.
  • Collaborate closely with design, product, art, and publishing teams to position engineering as a proactive, solutions-driven partner.
  • Drive hiring, talent development, and retention strategies to build a high-performing, growth-oriented engineering culture.
  • Align central technology groups (platform, infrastructure, data, QA) with game studios to maximize efficiency and technical cohesion.
  • Represent engineering at the executive level, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and portfolio priorities.
Qualifications
  • Extensive leadership experience in game engineering, managing multi-team organizations delivering live or service-based titles.
  • Proven ability to develop and mentor Technical Directors and technical leads across distributed and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong background in Unity development and familiarity with games-as-a-service models and multi-platform delivery.
  • Demonstrated success in organizational design, process optimization, and integration of emerging technologies (including AI) to accelerate development.
  • In-depth understanding of the game development lifecycle, particularly live operations and content delivery pipelines.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills, with a talent for aligning diverse stakeholders around shared goals.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to connect technical execution to business impact.
  • Experienced in agile methodologies, fostering continuous learning, adaptability, and rapid iteration.
