Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and maintain SOPs and performance measures for internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Serve as technical advisor to System CFO on matters with auditors and regulators.
  • Provide timely updates on issues and status of major projects and assess risks.
  • Ensure GAAP compliance and company procedures; monitor internal controls.
  • Represent EMHS and Mercy Health to community organizations as a leader.
  • Investigate and correct errors in financial statements to ensure integrity of information.
  • Prepare annual budget and forecast revenues/expenditures.
  • Prepare financial statements and reports to summarize current and projected financial position.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations and policies.
  • Submit periodic reports indicating financial status of Mercy.
  • Maintain confidentiality of materials and proper release of information.

Summary:

The VP, Finance has a matrixed reporting structure to the Northern Light Health Chief Financial Officer and the Northern Light Health SVP,President. The Vice President, Finance is responsible for the day-to-day financial operational activities of the Hospital and monitoring compliance with the system's accounting policy, as well as working with other departments to implement best practices throughout. This includes revenue and growth, expenses, costs and margin-control; and monthly, quarterly, and annual financial goal management. The VP, Finance will accomplish these responsibilities according to the mission and values of Hospital and the mission of the sponsoring Sisters of the Northeast. This entails working within the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Healthcare Services, utilizing values-based discernment, in partnership with the Catholic Church. Additionally, the VP, Finance will possess a strong financial and business acumen within a healthcare organization and commitment to continual process improvement.

Responsibilities:

  • 1. Develop, implement and maintain standard operating procedures and performance measures to ensure a sound internal control environment over financial reporting. Promote consistent levels of timeliness, accuracy and completeness in work product and achieve stated performance measures.
  • 2. Serve as technical advisor to the System CFO on all matters pertaining to outside auditors, investment bankers and other external reporting and regulatory bodies as it pertains to Mercy Hospital.
  • 3. Provide timely updates to senior finance management on issues and status of major projects including identification of potential risks and development of contingency plans that address issues as needed.
  • 4. In collaboration with System accounting operations, develop, implement and monitor compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and company procedures.
  • 5. Represents EMHS and Mercy Health to organizations within the community in the role of representative, and civic leader.
  • 6. Review, investigate and correct errors and inconsistencies in financial statements, documents and reports to ensure integrity of all financial information.
  • 7. Prepares and recommends the annual budget showing the expected revenues and expenditures.
  • 8. Prepare financial statement and other reports to summarize and interpret current and projected company financial position.
  • 9. Assure compliance with federal, state, local and corporate policies, regulations and laws.
  • 10. Submits periodic and other special reports to EMHS indicating the financial status of Mercy.
  • 11. Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within EMHS and Mercy as well as the proper release of information.
  • 12. Complies with EMHS and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements.
  • 13. Demonstrates Performance Improvement in the following areas as appropriate: Clinical Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety.
  • 14. Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices.
  • 15. Complies with EMHS and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code.
