Job summary

The Goldman Sachs Group is seeking an experienced Technical Program Manager for its Data Engineering team to own the roadmap, drive cross-functional programs, and manage risk and financials for a large data estate including the Legend data platform and Lakehouse.

The role requires deep technical acumen in data systems, APIs, SQL, and cloud fundamentals, with a strong emphasis on collaboration with engineering leaders and business stakeholders to deliver measurable outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or related technical and/or business discipline, or equivalent practical experience
• 7+ years of technical program or project management experience delivering complex engineering programs
• Working knowledge of data and cloud fundamentals: SQL, relational and analytical databases, data modelling concepts, APIs, and public cloud.
• Demonstrated success partnering with engineering teams to deliver technical outcomes
• Track record of managing dependencies, risks, and issues across multiple teams, and driving items to closure
• Comfortable with Agile ways of working and with planning and reporting mechanics
• Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical problems to engineers and senior stakeholders
• Ability to set goals, meet deadlines and maintain progress communication
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Independent thinker capable of challenging assumptions
• Ability to stay commercially focused and drive measurable impact
• Quality-focused advocate for platform and engineer/user experience

Responsibilities

• Translate strategy into a sequenced plan and drive execution across data engineering programs
• Own the roadmap and surface trade-offs while maintaining a realistic plan
• Run the commitment book and drive closures with senior stakeholders
• Own the risk book of work and coordinate with risk/compliance teams
• Lead cross-cutting programs end-to-end (data model/API rollouts, migrations, AI enablement)
• Steward financials including budget, headcount, and cloud spend with evidence-based reporting
• Support people agenda including hiring, onboarding, and talent processes
• Develop deep technical understanding of Legend platform, data models, APIs, and query workloads
• Use data to measure platform health, adoption, throughput, cost and UX
• Partner with AI initiatives and ensure governance/standards are followed
• Build strong relationships with divisional partners to maximize business impact
• Improve planning, reporting, governance rhythms and engineering standards
