Job description

Replit is the agentic software creation platform that enables anyone to build applications using natural language. With millions of users worldwide, Replit is democratizing software development by removing traditional barriers to application creation.

Replit is changing who gets to build software. As an agentic software creation platform, Replit enables anyone, from individual creators to teams inside the world’s largest companies, to turn natural language into applications, internal tools, dashboards, workflows, websites, and software that solves real problems.

We are looking for a Director or VP of Communications to help lead Replit’s next chapter of storytelling, reputation building, and market awareness.

This is a senior communications role for a creative, strategic, and hands‐on leader who can help build and scale the communications function as Replit grows from a beloved developer platform into a defining company in AI, software creation, and enterprise transformation. This person will help own Replit’s external and internal communications strategy, including company narrative, media relations, analyst relations, executive communications, internal communications, crisis communications, customer storytelling, policy‑related communications, and global awareness.

The role requires someone who can push through the noise and make the Replit story heard and for it to be a part of the narrative at all times. The Director / VP of Communications will help develop a compelling narrative that evolves with the company, the product, and the market, and deliver that narrative to the audiences across media, policymakers, partners, customers, potential ones and employees. The role will also support Replit’s international awareness, with a focus on key markets in Europe and Asia.

This person must be both strategic and execution‑oriented. They should have been able to build a comms function at a fast‑growing technology company or have been the second in command at one. But, this is not to be seen as a traditional press office role of taking a playbook from one company and adopting it in its entirety at Replit.

The person must be able to be creative, scrappy, maybe even spiky, to take what they know to work as a foundation and then build on it to make Replit a unique player that can punch above its weight in a very crowded and competitive marketplace.

Role
  • Help lead and scale Replit’s communications function, including communications strategy, team structure, agency management, operating rhythms, and execution standards.

  • Develop and evolve Replit’s corporate narrative as the company expands across AI, developer tools, enterprise, consumer, education, and global markets.

  • Lead communications programs across company announcements, product launches, enterprise momentum, customer stories, partnerships, policy‑related issues, executive visibility, awards, events, and thought leadership.

  • Shape how the market understands Replit as an agentic software creation platform that enables anyone to build applications using natural language.

  • Build clear, credible narratives around AI‑powered software creation, developer productivity, enterprise adoption, security, governance, education, and the future of work.

  • Partner with the CEO, executive team, and functional leaders on positioning, reputation, media strategy, internal communications, and high‑stakes company moments.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with technology, business, AI, enterprise, developer, policy, and international media.

  • Partner closely with product, engineering, marketing, sales, partnerships, legal, policy, people, and finance to create coordinated communications programs that support company priorities.

  • Lead or support internal communications, including company meetings, leadership messaging, employee announcements, change communications, and moments that help the company stay aligned as it scales.

  • Manage proactive and reactive communications, including rapid response, issues management, crisis communications, and sensitive topics.

  • Prepare executives and spokespeople for media interviews, podcasts, conferences, customer events, internal moments, and industry presentations.

  • Support Replit’s global communications strategy, with particular focus on expanding awareness in Europe and Asia.

  • Track the AI, software, developer, enterprise, startup, and policy landscape to identify where Replit should lead, respond, or reframe the conversation.

  • Build a communications culture that values speed, clarity, creativity, judgment, and proof.

Minimum Qualifications
  • BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience.

  • 12+ years of experience in communications, PR, media, corporate affairs, or related fields for Director level; 15+ years for VP level.

  • Experience building, scaling, or significantly expanding a communications function at a fast‑growing technology company.

  • Proven experience working directly with founders, CEOs, executives, and senior cross‑functional leaders.

  • Strong relationships with technology, business, enterprise, AI, developer, and/or policy media.

  • Experience managing external agencies and cross‑functional communications programs on a global level.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages for users, developers, enterprise buyers, employees, policymakers, partners, and the press.

  • Strong understanding of the AI landscape and how AI is changing software development, enterprise productivity, and the future of work.

  • Experience across several communications disciplines, including external communications, internal communications, media relations, executive communications, crisis communications, and strategic messaging.

  • Ability to translate complex technical ideas into clear, compelling stories without losing substance.

  • Cross‑functional leadership experience, with the ability to influence and collaborate across product, engineering, sales, marketing, legal, policy, finance, and people teams.

  • Ability to see the big picture while operating in execution mode.

  • Passionate about their craft and the impact they can have.

  • Strong judgment in fast‑moving, high‑pressure environments.

  • A creative, resourceful, “do more with less” mindset.
