Job summary

LPL Financial is seeking a VP of Functional Design Engineering & Strategy to lead the Foundations team in the Cloud Center of Excellence (CCOE). You will translate enterprise architecture intent into build-ready engineering specifications, curate Terraform reference patterns, and drive AWS Well-Architected improvements across pillars.

You will also mentor engineers across the US and India, participate in 24x7 on-call rotations, and embed agentic AI capabilities into design and self-service

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive technical experience including 5+ years in cloud infrastructure or platform engineering leadership.
• 5+ years of hands-on production AWS at scale in a multi-account landing zone, with 4+ years of authoring production Terraform in a private module ecosystem delivered through Terraform Cloud and GitHub Actions.
• 5+ years experience as a direct people manager of engineering teams of 5+ engineers, including hiring, performance management, compensation, and difficult personnel decisions.
• 5+ years experience translating enterprise architecture intent into implementable engineering designs that downstream engineers actually build, with deep, current command of the AWS Well-Architected Framework and excellent technical writing (ADRs, design documents, reference architectures).

Responsibilities

• Lead the Functional Design Engineering & Strategy pod within the Foundations team in CCOE; partner with Enterprise Architecture, Information Security, and other Foundations pods to translate enterprise architecture intent into implementable, well-architected solutions.
• Define and curate the cross-CCOE reference pattern library: Terraform modules, reference architectures, and ADRs.
• Lead design reviews, architecture review boards, and engineering deep-dives across multiple teams; ensure Well-Architected adherence.
• Embed agentic AI capabilities into tooling, pattern generation, and self-service platforms for internal customers.
• Recruit, mentor, and retain a globally distributed team; own people-management responsibilities including performance and career development.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and represent the pod in executive forums, audits, and customer engagements.
