Job description

• Great Hill Partners is building a high-performing AI team to change how private equity work gets done.
• As VP, AI Engineer, you will own the full applied AI lifecycle, from framing business problems and designing solutions through deployment, operation, and adoption. The initial focus will be Great Hill's investment team, building production multi-agent workflows for sourcing, research, diligence, and investment decisions. As the program grows, the role will expand to portfolio company value creation and other firm-wide opportunities.
• This is an unusual opportunity to combine hands-on engineering with direct exposure to investment decisions, business leaders, and a range of industries and operating challenges.
• We are looking for an agentic AI expert and practical generalist who can work across data, cloud infrastructure, integrations, deployment, and operations. This is a VP-level individual-contributor role, approximately 75% hands-on engineering and 25% technical leadership. It is not a traditional people-management position.
• You will mentor a junior Data Scientist, guide contractors, and help shape how Great Hill builds with AI.
• You will partner with a Data & Platform Engineer who owns the shared Azure and Snowflake foundation.

What you will do:

• Own AI use cases end to end: frame the business problem, design the approach, build and deploy the solution, and work with users until it is adopted.
• Design, build, and operate multi-agent workflows, initially for Great Hill's investment team and later for portfolio companies.
• Build agent harnesses that manage goals, tools, context, state, routing, evaluation loops, and human review.
• Connect agents to firm data and systems through APIs, MCP, retrieval, and enterprise integrations.
• Build the data pipelines and services needed to take each workflow from idea to production.
• Create practical evaluations, trace failures, reduce hallucinations, and improve quality, reliability, speed, and cost.
• Serve as the bridge between business and technology, working directly with investment professionals and, as the program expands, portfolio company leaders.
• Evaluate models, managed products, and vendors based on business fit, user experience, and operating burden.
• Mentor the junior Data Scientist and set technical direction and quality standards for contractors.

What we are looking for:

• 6+ years of experience across AI, software, data, cloud, or related engineering roles.
• Experience designing and deploying production multi-agent workflows used by real users.
• Strong Python and SQL skills, including hands-on Snowflake experience.
• Experience taking AI systems from prototype through deployment and ongoing operation.
• Working knowledge of data pipelines, retrieval, evaluations, APIs, MCP, cloud infrastructure, and CI/CD.
• Strong command of agentic software development practices, including task decomposition, context management, tool and permission design, iterative testing, verification, and code review.
• Regular use of coding agents for substantive engineering work. Our development environment includes Claude Code and Codex running on MacBooks and VMs.
• Strong product judgment and the ability to turn ambiguous business needs into useful solutions.
• An intellectually curious, action-oriented builder who is comfortable owning ambiguous problems and working across the stack.
• Clear communication with technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
• A bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred background:

• Experience with the Claude Agent SDK, OpenAI Agents SDK, Lang Graph, or a comparable orchestration stack.
• AI consulting, forward-deployed engineering, customer engineering, solutions architecture, product engineering, or startup experience.
• Exposure to private equity, financial services, or data-intensive business workflows.

What success looks like:

During your first year, you will put three to five high-value investment workflows into sustained use and establish patterns that can later extend across Great Hill's portfolio. We will measure success against adoption, output quality, reliability, speed, and business impact.
