Job summary

United Overseas Bank Limited (UOB) seeks a VP, AI & Data Assurance to lead a robust assurance framework for AI and data initiatives across the bank. This role ensures ethical, compliant, and reliable deployment of AI models and data-driven solutions while protecting the bank's reputation.

You will guide risk assessment, model validation, data quality, and governance, partnering with AI/ML teams, legal, compliance, and risk management to safeguard customers and the organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a quantitative field; PhD is a plus.
  • At least 10 years in risk management, audit, compliance, or assurance in financial services; 5+ years in AI/ML or data governance.
  • Deep understanding of AI/ML concepts and model lifecycles; familiarity with bias and explainability.
  • Knowledge of data governance, data quality, and privacy regulations (GDPR, PDPA).
  • Experience in developing assurance frameworks, control testing, and risk assessment methodologies for complex tech systems.
  • Familiarity with AI/data/regulatory guidelines (MAS TRM, BCBS 239, ethical AI).
  • Certifications like CISM/CISA/CRISC or AI ethics are desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and refine a comprehensive AI and Data Assurance strategy and framework, aligning with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead identification, assessment, and mitigation of risks in AI model development, deployment, and operation (bias, fairness, transparency, explainability, security, privacy).
  • Establish and manage a robust model validation and review process for all AI/ML models.
  • Oversee data quality assurance processes for data used in AI models and analytics.
  • Collaborate with AI/ML engineering, data science, legal, compliance, risk management, and business units to embed assurance throughout the lifecycle.
  • Develop and deliver training programs on AI ethics, data governance, and assurance practices.
  • Formulate and implement control frameworks and monitoring for post-deployment performance and compliance.
  • Prepare and present reports on AI and Data Assurance status to senior management, audit committees, and regulators.
  • Stay updated on emerging AI technologies, regulatory landscapes, and assurance methodologies.
  • Lead and mentor a team of AI and data assurance professionals.

Job Description

The VP, AI & Data Assurance will be a critical leader responsible for establishing and overseeing a robust assurance framework for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data initiatives across United Overseas Bank Ltd. This role ensures the ethical, compliant, and reliable deployment and operation of AI models and data-driven solutions, safeguarding the bank's reputation, mitigating risks, and fostering trust in its digital transformation journey.

Job Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and continuously refine a comprehensive AI and Data Assurance strategy and framework, aligning with industry best practices, regulatory requirements (e.g., MAS TRM, GDPR, AI ethics guidelines), and internal policies.
  • Lead the identification, assessment, and mitigation of risks associated with AI model development, deployment, and ongoing operation, including bias, fairness, transparency, explainability, security, and data privacy.
  • Establish and manage a robust model validation and review process for all AI/ML models, ensuring their accuracy, stability, performance, and adherence to intended objectives.
  • Oversee the implementation of data quality assurance processes for data used in AI models and analytics, ensuring data integrity, accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
  • Collaborate closely with AI/ML engineering teams, data scientists, legal, compliance, risk management, and business units to embed assurance principles throughout the AI lifecycle (design, development, testing, deployment, monitoring).
  • Develop and deliver training programs and awareness initiatives on AI ethics, data governance, and assurance best practices to relevant stakeholders across the bank.
  • Formulate and implement control frameworks and monitoring mechanisms to track the performance and compliance of AI systems and data pipelines post-deployment.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on AI and Data Assurance status, risks, and findings to senior management, audit committees, and relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Stay abreast of emerging AI technologies, regulatory landscapes, and assurance methodologies to proactively adapt the bank's framework.
  • Lead and mentor a team of AI and data assurance professionals, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Risk Management, or a related quantitative field. A Ph.D. is a plus.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in risk management, audit, compliance, or assurance roles within the financial services industry, with at least 5 years focused specifically on AI, machine learning, or data governance.
  • Deep understanding of AI/ML concepts, algorithms, model development lifecycles, and their inherent risks (e.g., bias, explainability, robustness).
  • Strong knowledge of data governance principles, data quality frameworks, and data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, PDPA).
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing assurance frameworks, control testing, and risk assessment methodologies for complex technological systems.
  • Familiarity with regulatory expectations and guidelines related to AI and data use in financial services (e.g., MAS TRM, BCBS 239, ethical AI principles).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, with the ability to interpret complex technical information and translate it into actionable insights for diverse audiences.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, capable of influencing stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience in leading and managing cross-functional teams.
  • Certifications in relevant areas such as CISM, CISA, CRISC, or AI ethics are highly desirable.
