This Vice President & Actuary position is responsible for leading and managing the actuarial staff in the Rating Plans & Systems unit of Commercial Actuarial. This team is responsible for coordinating rating externalization, transformation projects, predictive analytics and data across all product lines. The role is based in our Whitehouse, NJ office and reports to the Lead Actuary for Commercial Insurance (CI).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with CI management and CI product line actuaries to set priorities
  • Coordinate all rating externalization efforts with initial focus on Benchmarq (Chubb’s new Commercial Package product)
  • Work with CI management to develop/revise rating algorithms, including providing actuarial rate filing support for state regulators
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders including IT, Product Services, and Business Analysts to continuously update, maintain, and document the implementation of our rating algorithms
  • Transformation:
    • Coordinate transformation initiatives for CI actuarial focusing on pricing study modernization, planning, claims analysis and trend analysis
  • Predictive Analytics:
    • Work with the predictive analytics team to support CI underwriting initiatives
    • Develop simple GLM tools for use within the broader CI actuarial team
  • Data:
    • Develop processes and databases to facilitate both ad hoc and recurring analyses, and assist in communicating the results of these analyses to audiences with diverse backgrounds
    • Contribute to the creation of tools and dashboards that enable key stakeholders to monitor the performance and health of the book and glean data-driven insights from our experience

  • Proficiency in Excel and other programming languages and tools, such as SQL / R / Python / FOCUS / RADAR along with a keenness for data (collection, manipulation, report design, sensibility checks, and attention to detail)
  • Prior managerial or supervisory experience
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to prioritize multiple competing deliverables and manage time effectively to meet scheduled due dates
  • Strong collaboration skills; ability to work closely with other disciplines
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to provide clear and concise verbal and written communications regarding analyses and observations to non-actuarial business partners and leaders
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced, fluid environment
