Job summary

The Outreach Team in Des Moines, IA seeks canvassers to help register voters and promote progressive turnout. Open now for full-time and part-time roles, with shifts from 10:45 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday, through September 20.

If eligible, bilingual staff receive a $1/hour bonus and there are overtime and bonus opportunities. Leaders start at $21/hour and general canvassers at $20/hour, with total weekly earnings potentially $1,500+ when bonuses apply.

Responsibilities

• Engage with the public in a friendly and respectful manner.
• Deliver a compelling campaign message and collect complete and valid voter registration forms.
• Participate in staff training to improve outreach skills.
• Strictly follow all local, state, and federal laws around voter registration.
• Manage a small group of canvassers in the field and debrief with them at day end.
• Ensure canvassers have materials for safety and effectiveness.
• Assist directors with canvasser training and administrative work.

Full-time & Part-time

Voter registration is a crucial first step in increasing voter turnout

and allowing voters to impact critical elections. We will be registering new voters who agree with our progressive values, and want to see Trump removed from office. We'll stop people in heavily trafficked areas and walk them through the process to register to vote. By engaging community members and motivating new voters, we are working to ensure that the electorate accurately reflects the diversity and interests of all!

Get paid well!

Canvass positions start at $20/hour. Leadership positions start at $21/hour. We offer a $1/hr bonus to staff who are bilingual in English and Spanish. We also offer overtime, and many bonus opportunities. Total weekly earning potential is $1500+ when you meet all requirements for bonuses.

We are hiring immediately;

all positions run through September 20th, with possibilities for advancement afterwards. Shifts run from 10:45 a.m.-6:30 p.m., Tuesday-Sunday, with the possibility to work part-time or full-time

• Engage with the public in a friendly and respectful manner

• The Canvasser Responsibilities plus:
• Manage a small group of canvassers out in the field by checking in with them periodically throughout the day and debriefing with them at the end of the day
• Ensure each canvasser has all of the materials they need to be safe and successful
• Assist directors with canvasser training and administrative work

The ideal candidate:

• Passionate about progressive politics and fostering democracy
• Strong communication skills; you should enjoy working with other people and be willing and excited to speak with everyone
• Hard worker who will stay motivated to engage as many people as possible
• Open to new challenges and are interested in building their campaign skills
• Culturally competent and able to respectfully engage with teammates and the community
• Prior voter registration experience is strongly preferred, but not required
