As Michigan takes center stage on the political landscape for the upcoming elections, students in Michigan have an opportunity to make their voices heard and take leadership on their campuses. For Michigan will empower students to be civic leaders in their community through voter registration, education, and turnout. With over 80 colleges and universities in the state of Michigan and nearly half a million students, young voters have the numbers and the power to shape the future of our state through leadership in the electoral process.

We’re building a scrappy and innovative operation to protect and expand democracy by elevating youth leadership across the state in order to empower thousands of college students to take control of their futures, get organized, and vote in the 2026 elections.

What Will You Do?

For Michigan is seeking a Voter Access Director who understands that young voters, especially college students, face unique barriers to registering and casting their ballots. This role will lead research and information-gathering efforts to ensure our organizing team has clear, accurate, and actionable voting information for students. The Voter Access Director will be committed to advocating for student voters with both passion and tact throughout the year.

The Voter Access Director will research and develop solutions across the full continuum of barriers to casting a ballot as a young person in Michigan, including by:

• Researching and maintaining up-to-date voting access information across campuses, including early voting locations, satellite clerk offices, and transportation options.
• Building relationships with the existing Michigan Voter Access and Voter Protection infrastructure.
• Building and maintaining relationships with the County and City Clerks across the state.
• Monitoring new or updated laws impacting voting access, and using independent judgment to educate staff, volunteers, and voters.
• Leading a quality control program for all voter registration forms to ensure students are fully prepared to vote.
• Planning and managing voter protection, voter access, and ballot cure programs, including outreach to ensure every voter we register is successfully entered on the rolls and able to vote on Election Day.
• Supporting grant writing for voter protection and access work.
• Providing training and ongoing support to organizing staff.
• Developing and implementing a poll observer program across campuses.
• Supporting additional projects and responsibilities as needed.

Who Are You?

A successful candidate for this role will have:

• At least one cycle of experience in organizing or voter protection.
• The ability to explain complex issues in clear, accessible terms (a legal degree is not required).
• Experience working with VAN.
• The ability to develop cohesive plans and oversee their implementation.
• Strong communication skills, with responsiveness to internal and external requests, emails, and calls.
• Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Familiarity with the Michigan election system preferred, but not required.

What Are The Physical Requirements?

Job Details:

The compensation for this position is $6,300/month and includes a generous benefits package. This position is full time, at-will, and terminable at any time without or without cause. This position is in person based in Detroit, Michigan.
