Job summary

Virginia Department of Labor and Industry seeks a VOSH Safety Engineer to join the Northwest Regional Office in Harrisonburg, VA. The role focuses on protecting workers by enforcing safety standards, conducting inspections, and promoting a culture of safety.

You will interact with directors and officers to drive regulatory compliance and protect lives in workplaces across the region. This is a full-time position with comprehensive state benefits, retirement contributions, and holiday pay.

Qualifications

• Knowledge or experience explaining and/or understanding occupational safety standards.
• Knowledge or experience performing inspections for compliance.
• Knowledge or experience recommending controls and corrective actions.

Responsibilities

• Prepare for inspections by reviewing history and practices.
• Conduct site visits to identify workplace hazards.
• Evaluate health exposures to physical, chemical, biological, and ergonomic risks.
• Document effectiveness of health programs, policies, and procedures.
• Interview management and staff about hazard exposures.
• Prepare case files and recommend citations for violations.
• Collaborate with employers to implement corrective measures.
• Assess efforts to reduce hazards and investigate complaints and incidents.
