About Us

The Empowerment Factory (TEF) is dedicated to giving children the skills they need to lead happier, healthier lives. We focus on three areas of development: creativity, self-esteem, and civic pride. Our Creative Squad programs blend hands-on activities with social-emotional learning (SEL) and environmental education. Our vision is for every child to develop confidence and the ability to express themselves, while becoming actively engaged in their communities. We believe every child should feel they matter and can make a difference in the world around them.

TEF offers programs and events for schools, after-school, organizations, libraries, and youth groups to help children develop essential skills. Founded by Gail Ahlers in April 2014 as a nonprofit, it became a federally recognized 501(c)3 in August 2016. Our blended learning model has positively impacted over 3,700 urban youth through 34 after-school clubs and 13 summer programs, with 90% from underserved communities.

We welcome your involvement—resources, volunteering, and advocacy—to help build a better world.
