Job summary

Natural and Cultural Resources’ North Carolina Aquariums at Fort Fisher seeks a Volunteer Services Coordinator to organize the volunteer program, currently centered at Discovery Bay, Wilmington, NC, during the renovation period.

You will recruit, onboard, train, coach, and recognize volunteers, design training pathways, track service, and coordinate with the Education Curator to relaunch the program for the grand opening.

Qualifications

  • Experience managing a volunteer program at a zoo, aquarium, park, museum or tourist attraction.
  • Experience developing and/or maintaining an effective framework for volunteer training.
  • Experience in administrative work, including working with different computer software, databases.
  • Experience working with and supervising adults and youths.
  • Demonstrated communication skills and habits.
  • Demonstrated customer service experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design training pathways and checkpoints to support volunteer knowledge and skill development.
  • Actively recruit volunteers, provide orientation, onboarding, scheduling and service tracking.
  • Coach and organize professional development opportunities and coordinate volunteer recognition.
  • Support day-to-day operations of volunteers, including supplies and on-floor work at exhibits.
  • Work with Education on programming, outreach, camps and outdoor activities.
  • Collaborate with other departments and partners to coordinate volunteer service.
  • Support Teen Volunteer program recruitment, screening, orientation and supervision.
  • Represent the Aquarium to professional organizations and stay current with best practices.
