Job summary

Aspire Afterschool Learning in Arlington, VA, seeks a Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator to recruit, train, and manage volunteers for afterschool and summer programs, and to support corporate and community outreach.

You will attend events, build partnerships with local schools and organizations, maintain the volunteer database, develop SOPs, coordinate volunteer activities, and report on outreach metrics. This full-time, in-person role is based at Arlington locations.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job description

Aspire Afterschool Learning is seeking a Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator. This highly adaptable, personable, and well-organized candidate will work as part of a close team and be responsible for volunteer recruitment and management and support corporate and community outreach in support of our mission to close the educational opportunity gap for South Arlington students.

The Volunteer and Program Coordinator will work to strengthen community engagement in our afterschool and summer learning program by recruiting, training, and managing high school students through retired volunteers as reading buddies and homework helpers. They will serve a key coordinating role for all individual and group volunteer recruitment, training, and management, provide mentorship to Aspire Interns, and support corporate and community outreach, including attending external events aligned with Aspire’s goals and contacting community organizations and corporations to support Aspire initiatives, such as the food pantry, holiday drives, and corporate engagement volunteer-sponsorship packages.

What You’ll Do:
  • Manage and respond to Aspire’s volunteer email account, maintaining timely and professional relationships with prospective and current volunteers
  • Recruit volunteers of all ages through various means, including attending volunteer fairs, posting volunteer listings, and cultivating partnerships with local schools and community organizations
  • Train and supervise volunteers for Aspire’s programs and activities, ensuring coordination with program staff
  • Lead recruitment and interviewing for APS Interns and applicable AmeriCorps Members
  • Provide training, ongoing mentorship, and management for Aspire APS Intern and Urban Alliance volunteers
  • Plan and implement volunteer recognition activities throughout the year and for National Volunteer Week
  • Maintain the volunteer database and record all volunteer hours, regularly update data information, and develop reports on Volunteer and Outreach activities as required
  • Develop, improve, and maintain volunteer-related SOPs and ensure volunteer SOPs/processes/systems are aligned with best practices and laws (i.e. background checks)
  • Assist with facilitating corporate volunteer events
  • Planning and managing monthly community volunteer nights
Community & Corporate Outreach Responsibilities (35%)
  • Collaborate with and support the Development & Communications Director with Aspire’s corporate volunteer engagement program, including building and maintaining a pipeline of corporate partners, pitching volunteer-sponsorship packages, and coordinating group volunteer events that align with program needs
  • Identify, cultivate, and steward relationships with community organizations, faith communities, civic groups, and local businesses to expand Aspire’s volunteer base and in-kind resource support
  • Lead outreach and logistics for community resource initiatives, including the food pantry, holiday drives, school supply collections, and other in‑kind campaigns, ensuring adequate donations and smooth execution
  • Represent Aspire at community events, volunteer fairs, and networking opportunities; serve as an enthusiastic ambassador for the organization’s mission and programs
  • Maintain and grow Aspire’s presence on volunteer matching platforms (e.g., VolunteerMatch, Volunteer Arlington) and support social media outreach efforts related to volunteer recruitment and community engagement
  • Track and report on outreach activities, partnership development, and in‑kind resource contributions, maintaining accurate records in Aspire’s database

Skills & Experience:
  • 1–3 years of experience in volunteer coordination, community outreach, partnership development, or a related field (nonprofit, education, or social services preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, train, and retain volunteers across a range of ages and backgrounds, including youth, corporate groups, and retirees
  • Experience cultivating partnerships with community organizations, schools, businesses, or corporate CSR programs; comfortable making outreach calls and pitching partnership opportunities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to write clear, compelling outreach emails, training materials, and impact reports for varied audiences
  • Experience managing data and maintaining accurate records; comfortable working with volunteer management platforms or CRM systems (e.g., Galaxy Digital, Bloomerang, or similar)
  • Proficiency with Google Suite and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel); ability to produce clear reports, spreadsheets, and presentations
  • Event planning or logistics experience, including coordinating group activities, managing timelines, and communicating with multiple stakeholders simultaneously
What Else You Should Know:
  • The salary for this position is $46,000/year
  • The position is full‑time (40 hours/week) and requires the ability to work in‑person
  • General work hours are 10 am – 6 pm at Arlington Mill Community Center, with occasional travel to Aspire’s Drew and Randolph sites and community events, and occasional evening/weekend hours for applicable events/outreach
  • Monthly health insurance stipend up to $500/month
  • 15 vacation days during your first year of employment, 13 holidays, 5 wellness days, and up to two weeks off with pay during the winter holiday break
