Job description

ABOH volunteer Peer-to-Peer Companions have been through the cancer journey and simply want to help others. Their role is to listen and offer hope and companionship during the emotional roller coaster of a cancer diagnosis. They provide emotional support to patients and caregivers through texts, phone calls, and virtual or in-person meetings. Connecting with an ABOH companion who has experienced a cancer diagnosis can provide a great deal of support and connection.

Lung cancer places a great burden on families, and some lung cancer patients lack the support they need to achieve the best outcomes during their journey. Lung cancer carries an unkind stigma that often leaves patients feeling shamed and blamed. A Breath of Hope works to…

Mission Statement

Defeating Lung Cancer, Bringing Hope Worldwide! A Breath of Hope Lung Foundation fights lung cancer by funding innovative U.S. lung cancer research, raising awareness and supporting lung cancer patients and families.

Description

A Breath of Hope Lung Foundation was founded in 2008 by a group of lung cancer patients concerned about the lack of awareness and research funding for lung cancer, the deadliest of all cancers. Societal blame has long held lung cancer in the shadow of other less deadly cancers, leaving a public that does not understand the risks or recognize symptoms. Currently, only 26.6% of those diagnosed will live five years following their diagnosis, and 60% of those diagnosed are nonsmokers. Raising awareness about lung cancer is essential to creating a path toward improved wellness, earlier detection, and increased survival rates. The foundation hosts events to raise awareness, fund research, and provide support such as rides, companionship, and support groups for those facing cancer without adequate support.
