Many residents in long-term care, such as assisted living or skilled nursing facilities, have no one to speak up for them when their rights are violated. You can amplify their voices to ensure they receive appropriate care, have a fulfilling lifestyle, and are treated with dignity.
The mission of Oregon’s Long-Term Care Ombudsman program is to protect individual rights, enhance quality of life, improve care, and promote dignity for residents living in long-term care facilities. Many residents have no one to watch out for them or speak up when things go wrong; call lights go unanswered, meals arrive cold, or medications are given incorrectly.
Ombudsman don’t make decisions for the resident, or act as their legal representative, or provide care. It is our role to inform the resident of their rights, and then act upon their decision, resolving it in whatever way necessary. The need for Ombudsmen volunteers is great throughout the state, and we are looking for volunteers in the Eugene and surrounding areas.
A six-day online training will be scheduled for those who successfully complete the application process. Become someone who can help be a problem solver and advocate for many who cannot speak for themselves.
