Job description

Improve Disaster Relief/Recovery in India (remote)

We are seeking volunteers to:

  1. Identify India-based NGOs that respond to disasters on the local/national level. Aim for at least 20-25 NGOs per state. Please note, we are focusing on local NGOs, not international ones. These organizations will be invited to join www.smartresponse.org/India.
  2. Engage the diaspora community and others, both inside India and globally, who are interested in supporting local NGOs directly.
  3. Build awareness, content, and an audience on an India-specific Facebook page (Facebook Page) and share information about the organizations listed on the SmartResponse India page.

Disaster Accountability Project (DAP) aims to save lives and reduce suffering by enhancing the effectiveness, efficiency, and equity of disaster preparedness, response, relief, and recovery through oversight, transparency, advocacy, and public education.

About DAP

DAP is a leading nonprofit organization providing long-term, independent oversight of disaster management systems. We engage a dedicated community to promote policy research, advocacy, transparency, and public participation in oversight, community organizing, and disaster preparedness and relief discussions.

Citizen oversight is essential to ensure that resources allocated for disaster preparedness, relief, and recovery are used effectively, that communities are engaged and resilient, and that best practices and lessons learned are implemented to prevent repeat mistakes. Before DAP's creation, there was no dedicated independent oversight of the agencies responsible for these critical functions.
