Volunteer: Host a Foreign Exchange Student!

Join us to apply for the Volunteer: Host a Foreign Exchange Student! role at Education Travel & Culture.

ETC provides inbound program opportunities for high school students worldwide to study in American high schools and live with American families. Our outbound program offers students the chance to experience studying and living in a foreign country. Education Travel & Culture is dedicated to providing exceptional support to both students and host families through a network of local coordinators and dedicated staff.

Earn the Presidential Volunteer Service Award by hosting a foreign exchange student! You can earn up to 25 hours per week, which looks excellent on college applications and resumes.

ETC collaborates with the U.S. Department of State to find homes for foreign exchange students arriving in the USA on a J-1 visa. We host students from 15 countries, aged 14-18, seeking an American family to share this unique experience.

What does being a host family entail?

• Provide a safe, nurturing home environment
• Offer a room (shared with a similar-aged sibling is acceptable) with a bed
• Provide three meals per day
• Arrange transportation to and from school and activities
• Offer love and support to the student
• Families with or without children are welcome

What are the students like?

• Bring their own spending money and health insurance
• Have good English skills
• Are thoroughly screened for the program
• Are eager to meet their American family
