A local animal welfare organization is seeking a Volunteer Grant Writer to prepare grant proposals and support documentation for funding. This role involves communicating with leadership, collaborating with volunteers, and managing deadlines, contributing to projects aimed at reducing animal suffering. Ideal candidates will have strong writing skills, previous grant writing experience, and a commitment to the mission.
Mission: The mission of Carver Scott Humane Society (CSHS) is connecting animals in need with people who care.
Purpose: A Volunteer Grant Writer will further the mission of Carver Scott Humane Society by preparing proposals, grant applications, and supporting documentation by researching, identifying, developing, and responding to grant opportunities in order to procure funds for operating expenses and specific projects/campaigns.
Regularly check-in with CSHS leadership to discover specific projects that are in need of grant funding.
Review new granting opportunities on an ongoing basis. This includes subscribing to email lists to receive updates on Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and conducting research to self-identify opportunities.
Collaborating with CSHS staff and volunteers to collect information needed for grant applications.
Completing grant applications in full and submitting applications in advance of deadlines.
Keep track of grant applications that have been approved or denied and update leadership on a regular basis.
Submit reporting requirements to granting organization in a timely manner. This may include updates on a project the grant may have been awarded for.
Conduct ongoing communication with granting organizations as needed.
Share and support CSHS’s mission and core values; adhere to CSHS policies and procedures
Monitor and evaluate the success of grant applications and make recommendations for future improvement
Previous grant writing experience
Strong writing skills
Ability to communicate in a professional manner with CSHS stakeholders and representatives from outside granting organizations
Ability to meet deadlines
Excellent organizational skills
Self-motivated and ability to work independently, follow instructions, and meet deadlines
Personal qualities of honesty, integrity, credibility, and accountability
Commitment to understanding and serving the organization’s beneficiaries
Approximately 2-4 hours per week, varies.
