Volunteer: Grant Prospect Research and Proposal Development

Job description

This is a volunteer opportunity provided by Taproot Foundation, a nonprofit creating social change through pro bono connections.

We are seeking a skilled volunteer to help build a sustainable funding pipeline for our programs supporting underrepresented college students. This project focuses on identifying high-potential grant opportunities and developing the foundational language needed to apply for them.

The volunteer will:

• 1. Conduct research to identify 10-15 grant and sponsorship prospects aligned with our mission, providing a calendar of deadlines and eligibility requirements.


• 2. Develop a 'Grant Toolkit' or boilerplate language (Mission, Program Descriptions, Impact Statements) that can be reused for future applications.


• 3. Draft one full grant proposal or a comprehensive Letter of Inquiry (LOI) for a priority prospect.


• 4. Advise on a timeline for submission over the next 6-12 months.

Securing timely funding will enable scholarships, mentorship, LeadershipU, and community events for underrepresented college students, directly expanding access to leadership and career-building opportunities. Volunteers will help create lasting impact and new opportunities for students.

We will provide mission and program materials, scholarship information, impact data, board structure, and past partnership examples. Staff and board will be available for interviews, will review drafts promptly, and will implement recommended materials. Details will be provided to guide the work.
