Job description

Since 1976, St. Joseph Center has been meeting the needs of low-income and homeless individuals and families in Venice, Santa Monica, Mar Vista, and surrounding communities. The Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community organization that assists people without regard for religious affiliation or lack thereof through comprehensive case management and integrated social service programs. The Center enjoys broad-based community support as well as a sponsored relationship with its founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. St. Joseph Center serves approximately 6,000 individuals annually.

Brief Description of Principal Activities

Multifaceted intervention, prevention, and education services are carried out at four sites on the Westside of Los Angeles. St. Joseph Center’s integrated programs provide clients with concentrated and coordinated access to services according to the nature of their needs.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Community Partnerships, Volunteers and Events , the Volunteer & Events Coordinator will assist with volunteer intake, scheduling, communications, engagement tracking, event preparation, registration, data entry, and day-of support for volunteer activations and fundraising events. The Volunteer & Events Coordinator supports St. Joseph Center’s mission of serving individuals, youth, and families experiencing homelessness and poverty through healing-centered services, deep partnerships, and community impact.

The Volunteer & Events Coordinator’s key areas of responsibility include:

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Support the coordination and scheduling of individual volunteers, volunteer groups, court volunteers, and community partners.
  • Communicate with volunteer groups regarding upcoming opportunities, shift details, expectations, cancellations, and follow-up needs.
  • Provide administrative support for Development Department events, fundraising events, donor engagement activities, and community events.
  • Support data entry related to events, attendees, volunteers, sponsors, donors, and event participation.
  • Assist with general administrative and coordination needs related to volunteer engagement, events, and community partner support.
  • Assist with volunteer newsletters, volunteer opportunity announcements, and volunteer spotlight content.
  • Help identify opportunities to strengthen the volunteer experience and improve volunteer systems.
  • Assist with event invitation lists, RSVP tracking, registration, guest check-in, event flow, and day-of logistics.
  • Help track event details, deadlines, and action items to ensure projects stay organized and on schedule.
  • Support post-event follow-up, including data updates, thank-you communications, and reporting needs.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable communicating with volunteers, donors, corporate partners, staff, and community members.
  • Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple tasks, dates, and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating closely with a team.

Experience:

  • Experience working with volunteers, community groups, corporate groups, donors, or nonprofit partners is a plus.
  • Experience with event registration, databases, spreadsheets, or volunteer management platforms is helpful.

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred.

Direct Reports:

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Computer Skills:

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • None

  • Access to reliable transportation.
