Community Servings' mission is to actively engage the community to provide medically tailored, nutritious, scratch-made meals to chronically and critically ill individuals and their families. In addition, we are committed to prioritizing racial and economic justice and health equity in all our programs and business practices.

We are a dynamic and fast-growing agency at the forefront of the "Food is Medicine" field, providing over 1M medically tailored meals annually to clients experiencing illness and food insecurity in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. In addition, our work strongly focuses on supporting the regional local food system, delivering high-quality nutrition education to the community, and hosting an on-site food-service workforce development program. Over the past 35 years, the agency has provided 13M+ free, scratch-made meals.

To support our mission, Community Servings works with dozens of volunteers each day to help prepare meals and participate in a variety of other activities which support our mission, all managed by the Volunteer Services department. This team is seeking a Volunteer Coordinator for our Mansfield packing and distribution facility, whose main role is to recruit, schedule, train, and oversee the volunteers who join our distribution center staff to pack and ship meals to our clients each day, as well as scheduling and confirming volunteers across all locations.

Primary Responsibilities:

Volunteer Management

  • Welcome volunteers and assign duties/tasks in collaboration with distribution center staff. This could include tasks that are in the packing and distribution production line areas or community room at the facility.
  • Conduct daily volunteer orientations to volunteer groups and individuals.
  • Enforce sanitation and safety policies, including administering appropriate first aid, if needed.
  • Engage with volunteer groups from start to finish, answering questions, providing support, and taking photos.
  • Report in person to our Mansfield facility (except holidays and other paid time off) Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm.

Recruitment and Community Engagement

  • Recruit and retain individual and group volunteers by actively engaging in community events, fairs, and targeted marketing efforts, in collaboration with Management, Events and Development teams.
  • Represent Community Servings at community events in efforts to introduce the organization to community members and recruit new individual and group volunteers.
  • Schedule and confirm individual and group volunteers across all Community Servings sites and respond to volunteer inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Maintain and build relationships with our diverse base of volunteers from all backgrounds and with different abilities.
  • Assist in the development of new, in-person, remote and virtual volunteer opportunities that are safe, fun and impactful for volunteers.
  • Maintain effective communication among volunteers, staff and clients.
  • Recruit volunteers for agency fundraisers and special events.

Recognition

  • Work collaboratively with the Manager of Volunteer Services to manage a system of ongoing appreciation and recognition for volunteers.
  • Identify and nurture leadership abilities in volunteers.

Administrative

  • Complete any necessary hours documentation that volunteers might need (DTA, community service, and other agency verification).
  • Maintain accurate and actionable volunteer data to support shared team work and assist the Manager of Volunteer Services in agency volunteer reporting efforts.
  • Complete incident reporting documentation for volunteers, as needed.
  • Support the reception team in greeting visitors, as needed.
  • Conduct inventory of volunteering related supplies and recognition items, making requests to Reception or Manager of Volunteer Services as needed.

Other

  • Other duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Programs and the Manager of Volunteer Services.
  • Adherence to organization policies, procedures, and communication guidance at all times.
  • Modeling a work ethic and behaviors which align with Community Servings’ mission in all interactions with volunteers, staff, interns, board members, and other organization partners or peers.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with large groups, delegating tasks, and public speaking
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite required, especially Outlook, Word, Excel
  • Experience working with Microsoft Teams
  • Experience working with Salesforce preferred
  • Experience working with Dropbox preferred
  • Nonprofit experience preferred
  • Ability to speak multiple languages a plus

Education/Experience:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or at least 3 years’ experience in the area of volunteer or project management or equivalent combination of education and experience.
