About The Position

The Volunteer Coordinator participates in planning, coordinating, implementing, promoting, and overseeing activities for senior volunteer programs. They support the Senior Companion Program Coordinator with daily tasks related to the recruitment and retention of volunteer companions.

Note: This Volunteer Coordinator position is grant-funded and contingent upon continued funding availability. Employment in this role does not guarantee permanent status and may be subject to reduction or elimination if grant funding is reduced or discontinued.

A Day in the Life Consists of

As a Volunteer Coordinator, Your Day Focuses On Supporting The Senior Companion Program. You'll Recruit, Train, And Place Volunteers, Monitor Their Progress, And Ensure Meaningful Community Impact. Daily Tasks May Include

  • Coordinating volunteer orientations, trainings, and placements.
  • Promoting programs and maintaining outreach materials.
  • Managing timesheets, reports, and client care plans.
  • Partnering with local agencies for volunteer sites.
  • Planning volunteer recognition events.
  • Supporting volunteers and resolving issues as needed.

Education and Experience

High School Diploma, or G.E.D.Â

AND

Two (2) years of progressively responsible recreational or community services program coordination experience or a combination of training and experience.

Experience with the administration of senior program services or the recruitment and assignment of a large number of volunteers is highly desirable. Bilingual skills preferred.

A valid California driver's license is required.Â

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

Employees work under typical office conditions, and the noise level is usually quiet. While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit, walk, and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to manipulate, handle, feel, or operate standard office equipment, reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Knowledge of

  • Principles, practices, methods and processes used in the planning, administration, implementation, and promotion of a large-scale volunteer program.
  • City policies and procedures related to assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Federal, state, and local laws, and regulations.
  • Basic methods and practices of public outreach and involvement.
  • Principles and practices of sound business communication and marketing.
  • Uses and operations of a computer and database and other standard software to access.
  • Senior adult demographics, concerns, and interests; local seniors' community resources and communication vehicles.
  • Basic principles, practices, and techniques of effective employee supervision and training.

Skill in

  • Coordinating, overseeing, and supervising a program that recruits, trains, and places a large number of volunteers in public agencies and private settings.
  • Participating in organizing, coordinating, evaluating, and conducting effective marketing, training and recognition activities related to senior volunteer programs (RSVP and SCP).
  • Recruiting and interviewing applicants for placement as senior volunteers.
  • Assessing needs of senior-age clients and match client needs with volunteer resources.
  • Making presentations to various civic groups and organizations.
  • Eliciting community and organizational support for volunteer programs.
  • Operating a computer using word processing, database, and business software and standard office equipment.
  • Relating effectively to older adults from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Preparing clear, concise, and comprehensive correspondence and reports.
  • Organizing, setting priorities, and exercising sound independent judgment within areas of responsibility.
  • Dealing effectively with diverse members of the community.
  • Communicating clearly and concisely.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective relationships.
  • Providing customer service.
