Job summary

Aloha Harvest seeks a Volunteer Coordinator to recruit, onboard, train, and retain volunteers across all programs. The role involves on-site and outdoor work for Community Harvests, food rescue operations, and special events, with leadership development for Neighbor Island teams.

You will build and maintain a reliable volunteer pool, coordinate schedules, and ensure safety and compliance with policies. The position may require evenings and weekends and driving a provided vehicle.

  • Attend and actively participate in Community Harvests and other volunteer events.
  • Safely operate an Aloha Harvest work vehicle to transport equipment and rescued produce.
  • Assist with hands-on harvesting, loading, unloading, and distribution of rescued produce.
  • Develop and maintain a reliable pool of volunteers for on-call food rescue pickups.
  • Coordinate volunteers for office support, food sorting, special events, outreach, and other needs.
  • Coordinate and support volunteers at special events and off-site activities, including evenings and weekends.
  • Develop volunteer policies, procedures, training materials, and communication systems.
  • Build relationships with schools, businesses, and community organizations to strengthen recruitment.
  • Develop and implement volunteer recognition and retention strategies.
  • Lead the development of Neighbor Island volunteer teams and leaders.
  • Establish training, communication, scheduling, and reporting systems that support volunteer-led operations.

Position Description

The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, onboarding, training, scheduling, and retaining volunteers across all Aloha Harvest programs. This position oversees the Community Harvest Program and coordinates volunteers for Community Harvests, food rescue pickups, office support, food sorting, special events, outreach, and other organizational needs.

The position requires regular on-site and outdoor work for Community Harvests, volunteer activities, food rescue operations, and special events. The Volunteer Coordinator will also support the development of Neighbor Island volunteer teams and provide ongoing support and leadership development for Neighbor Island volunteer coordinators and team leaders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Recruit, onboard, train, schedule, and retain volunteers across all Aloha Harvest programs.
  • Oversee the Community Harvest Program and ensure consistent volunteer participation.
  • Lead and supervise all Community Harvest events, including volunteer coordination, on-site leadership, harvesting activities, produce handling, transportation, and distribution.
  • Attend and actively participate in Community Harvests and other volunteer events, providing on-site supervision and support to volunteers.
  • Safely operate an Aloha Harvest work vehicle to transport equipment and rescued produce to and from Community Harvests and recipient agency partners.
  • Assist with hands‑on harvesting, loading, unloading, and distribution of rescued produce.
  • Develop and maintain a reliable pool of volunteers for on‑call food rescue pickups.
  • Coordinate volunteers for office support, food sorting, special events, outreach, and other organizational needs.
  • Coordinate and support volunteers at Aloha Harvest special events and other off‑site activities, including evenings and weekends as required.
  • Develop volunteer policies, procedures, training materials, and communication systems.
  • Build relationships with schools, businesses, community organizations, and other groups to strengthen volunteer recruitment.
  • Develop and implement volunteer recognition and retention strategies.
  • Lead the development of Neighbor Island volunteer teams, including recruiting local volunteers and identifying volunteer leaders.
  • Establish training, communication, scheduling, and reporting systems that support primarily volunteer‑led operations on the Neighbor Islands.
  • Provide ongoing support and leadership development for Neighbor Island volunteer coordinators and team leaders.
  • Track volunteer hours, participation, retention, and other program metrics and provide regular reports to leadership.
  • Ensure volunteers follow Aloha Harvest safety, food handling, and operational policies.

Our office is located at 3599 Waialae Avenue, Suite 23, Kaimuki. Hybrid work is available for appropriate administrative responsibilities; however, this position requires regular on‑site and outdoor work for Community Harvests, volunteer activities, food rescue operations, and special events.

Community Harvests and other program activities may take place at farms, residential properties, community sites, and other outdoor locations across Oʻahu. The position may involve working in varying weather conditions and traveling to different locations throughout the island.

Pay: $48,000–$53,000 per year
