North Helpline is a non-profit organization that was formed in 1989 by concerned citizens, business leaders, service organizations, and local church members who saw their neighbors experiencing difficult times. Recognized by such organizations as the United Way, the Seattle Foundation, the City of Seattle, and the Greater Seattle Council of Churches. North Helpline provides a variety of emergency services to local residents; including a food bank, financial aid to prevent evictions and utility shut-offs, hygiene supplies, diapers and baby food; and referrals to other agencies that help residents get back on their feet.
We distribute food to our neighbors in North Seattle three times a week, keeping over 1,200 individuals fed. Our work would not be possible without the thousands of volunteer hours served here every year.

At North Helpline we assist neighbors with more than nutrition. Our Client Services team invites neighbors to access resources such as clothing, ID and "pet" vouchers, rental/utility/move-in assitance, No-cook and Hygien Kits and other community resources.
The Client Services volunteer positions include greeting neighbors outdoors and distributing numbers, checking in neighbors in our database outdoors when their number is called or hygiene running for diapers, menstruation prodcuts, dog and cat food, etc. Inside, our volunteers register new neighbors so they can access our services and provide them with resources both within our organization and in the community. Volunteers interested in Client Services are invited to join us for distribution first to have an understanding of the needs of this position.
Like all of our staff and volunteers, volunteers in the CS office positions are required to have compassion and treat everyone with respect. The Client Services office volunteers often work independently, with another volunteer member or a staff member. To meet our neighbors needs we ask for everyone to arrive on time for their scheduled shift.
