Junior Achievement is a nonprofit organization with the mission of empowering young people to own their economic success. We achieve this mission by recruiting volunteers to present our programs in grades K-12 during the school day.

Make a difference in the community!

We need volunteers to present our programs in Albany City Schools!

Options to teach 7th graders at Stephen & Harriet Myers Middle School

or K-5 students at Sheridan Prep Elementary School

Our programs center around promoting skills in work readiness, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship. JA uses hands-on, experiential activities to teach young people about business, economics, how to manage money, how to live within their means, and how staying in school will have a direct impact on their future.

How does it work?

Volunteering for JA is fun, flexible and rewarding. JA programs are easy to teach, require a modest time investment, and provide immediate feedback and personal satisfaction. JA provides volunteers with everything they need to be successful in the classroom, including

Choice of elementary school that is most convenient for you

All classroom materials needed to teach the program including a step-by-step lesson plan

Training on how to use the JA materials as well as teaching and classroom management tips (The teacher will remain in the classroom at all times to assist you!)

Connection to a teacher to coordinate when you teach the JA program.

Each program consists of lessons ranging from 30-45 minutes each, depending on grade level.

Elementary programs require 5 lessons, on average one per week.

The middle school program requires 4 lessons, on average one per week).You may schedule these lessons with the teacher however best fits your schedules.)
