SUMMARY
Gear up to help make a difference! As a Gear Shack Attendant, you’ll assist visitors with their outdoor essentials, keep the shop organized, and support conservation efforts with every sale. The Gear Shack Attendant is responsible for setting up and organizing merchandise in the Backcountry Wilderness Area’s gear shack. Volunteer tasks include assisting program participants with purchases, maintaining an inviting retail space, and using an iPad for sales transactions. Proceeds from gear sales support the Backcountry Wilderness Area Fund, which helps fund conservation efforts, habitat restoration, and outdoor education programs.
LOCATION
The Backcountry Wilderness Area is an 8,200-acre conservation property that serves as habitat for diverse species and close-to-home access to nature for our community. Surrounded by development, this protected space offers a rare refuge for wildlife and an opportunity for the community to connect with nature.
This individual will be based out of Base Camp, the heart of Camp Backcountry and home to our barnyard animals. As the starting point for most programs, Base Camp is a hub for outdoor education, adventure, and conservation efforts.
This volunteer will be in an outdoor or semi-outdoor retail space, requiring the ability to stand for extended periods and handle merchandise. Attendants should be prepared to interact with program participants in varying weather conditions.
DAYS AND TIMES
The following shifts are offered during the summer season (May-August) with Mondays and Fridays being priority days. Schedule may be adjusted for the fall and spring seasons.
Monday-Saturday 7:30-9:30AM
We’re flexible and committed to ensuring you have the support and training you need to succeed. We ask for at least one shift per week but will work with you to create a schedule that meets your needs. We want to make sure you’re able to stay with us long-term and contribute meaningfully to our team and mission, while also making the experience worthwhile for you.
