Job description

Volunteer as an Actor at 95th Street Elementary!

1 person is interested

Hey actors! Want to work with LA's best creatives? (Hint: it’s our students). Bring our students' screenplays to life in an upcoming Big Show! Young Storytellers is looking for volunteer performers to dedicate a couple of hours to perform at an upcoming 'Big Show,' an in-school assembly where volunteer actors bring our students' stories to life on stage in front of their classmates and the school community. No memorization or rehearsal is required. We just ask that you show up, meet our students, and bring their stories to life with the script in hand. Raise voices, have fun!

Young Storytellers is a non-profit program that raises student voices by teaching them how to write unique stories and transform them into screenplays. At the end of the program, each of our school partners puts on a 'Big Show,' where volunteer actors perform the students’ stories and bring them to life on stage.

Mission Statement

Young Storytellers sparks creative self-discovery through storytelling. Our programs highlight young people as the center of their own narratives, emphasize that their stories matter, and celebrate their unique voices as the ones telling them. Young Storytellers works towards a future where young people experience, through the stories they write, the impact that their thoughts, feelings, and words can have on the world in which they live. We raise voices, one story at a time.

Description

In elementary school, Young Storytellers uses storytelling to help young people explore their creativity and imagination. In middle school, we use storytelling to explore their goals for the future and what challenges might stand in their way. In high school, we use storytelling to explore the impact their voice can have in their community—and, more broadly, the world.
