POSITION DUTIES

The main purpose of this position and how it relate to the mission of the agency. To plan, organize and direct volunteer programs at NBCI Planning and Directing Volunteer Programs Develops plans for the effective operation of the volunteer program at a correctional institution. May provide advice and guidance to students and volunteers Directs the activities of volunteers and educates the community to the need for volunteers and the volunteer program at the institution Makes presentations to community groups to promote volunteer activities. Coordinates the distribution of donated materials and supplies Produces Institutional entries for volunteer programs Ensure compliance with all departmental policies, to include sexual harassment and its specific requirements for management’s promptand effective attention, reporting and response to such complaints Briefs staff on the supervision of volunteers Manages inmate organizations and programs Coordinates special population shows and events Coordinates population fundraising, walkathons, and sports and art festivals Interacts/monitors inmates as assigned/participating in approved projects Coordinates the activities of various volunteer groups Manages waiting lists and pass lists for inmate volunteer programming Provides program information & recommendations for use in preparing reports for the volunteer program Writes reports, correspondence, newsletters & other documents regarding volunteer programs Responsible for review and changes to directives relating to volunteer services and inmate organizations Conducts regular meetings with volunteer groups Prepares volunteers to work in the correctional setting, including but not limited to, requesting background checks, providing applications, Interviewing perspective volunteers, and conducting volunteer and student intern orientation Maintains records pertaining to volunteer programs and individual volunteers Plans special events and presentations Coordinator for charitable contributions/projects Completes other projects and assignments as directed by the Assistant Warden and/or Warden

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:Six years of experience involving planning, coordinatingand evaluating volunteer activities in a state facility, institution or community-based program. Notes: 1.Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor'sdegree from an accredited college or university, including 30 credit hours in social sciences, journalism, public relations or a related field and two years of experience involving planning, coordinating and evaluating volunteer activities in a state facility, institution or community-based program for therequired experience. 2.Candidates may substitute the possession of graduate leveleducation in social sciences, journalism, public relations or a related field from an accredited college or university at a rate of 30 credit hours for five years of the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland. 2. Employeesin this classification may be required to successfully complete training and maintain current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
