Statement of Duties
- Promote by example. Loyalty, leadership, dedication, integrity, physical fitness, sportsmanship, cooperation and personal responsibility.
- Focus on building a strong culture aligned with core values for the volleyball program in the highly competitive Merrimack Valley Conference.
- Implement codes of conduct for coaches, players, and parents of the HHS volleyball team.
- Ability to work the expected hours to include arriving prior to the student athlete arrival and departure times.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of game and competition rules and educate all coaches and student-athletes to share in that understanding, including the rules of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA).
- Develop appropriate training programs and practices.
- Ensure the proper cleaning, storage, and maintenance of all athletic equipment and uniforms in conjunction with the Athletic Director.
- Travel with student-athletes on the team bus both to and from games.
- Demonstrate knowledge of strategies and rules of volleyball.
- Work with the Head Coach and Athletic Trainer(s) and complete injury reports for any student injured within 24 hours even if the athlete does not see a physician.
- Work with the Athletic Department staff to ensure the proper forms including physical, attendance, parent consent, and medical information are collected prior to the start of the season.
- Enforce the policies and procedures of the Haverhill School Committee and the Haverhill High School Student Handbook.
- Supervise appropriate behavior of students from arrival to departure, both on and off the field, including the locker room, buses, practices, and at home and away games.
- Maintain a safe environment and facilities for all student athletes at all times.
- Attend the annual HHS all Coaches meeting.
- Review the HHS Coaches Handbook annually.
- Review and sign the Massachusetts Anti-Hazing Law Form annually.
- Demonstrate commitment to protect student athletes from inappropriate conduct.
- Proven ability to enforce all rules in all sport-related activities and venues.
- Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects and procedures pertinent to volleyball including rules of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA).
- Proven ability to work in a professional and friendly manner with various contingencies; i.e. students, teachers, parents, administrators, boosters, media, officials, and the school community and public.
- Report to the Head Coach, Athletic Director, and Haverhill High School Principal any disciplinary issues immediately.
- Perform other duties as requested by the Athletic Director, Principal, and the Superintendent of Schools and/or his/her designee.
Qualifications
- Proven ability to advocate the importance of education and school community.
- Successful previous experience as a volleyball player or coach.
- Volleyball coaching experience - preferred.
- Valid Driver's License - required.
- First Aid/CPR - required.
- MIAA Coaches Certification - preferred.
