Job summary

LS Technologies, a Tetra Tech Company, seeks an electrical engineer to support testing and analysis of FAA Air Traffic Control communication systems at the Atlantic City site.

The role emphasizes operational test planning, protocol conversion testing, and measurement of IP and analog signals. A strong foundation in engineering and knowledge of ED-137/VoIP are highly valued for performance testing tasks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer or electrical engineering from ABET-accredited program.
  • 20+ years of engineering experience required.
  • Knowledge of EUROCAE ED-137 and VoIP is desirable.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Support test, evaluation, and analysis of FAA Air Traffic Control communications systems.
  • Plan, develop, and execute operational test cases for Air-to-Ground and Ground-to-Ground protocols.
  • Prepare protocol converter test plans, procedures, and reports.
  • Develop procedures to measure IP, analog, and discrete signals and conversions.

Job description

LS Technologies, a Tetra Tech Company, is seeking an electrical Engineer with technical expertise to support the test, evaluation, and analysis of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Air Traffic Control Communication Systems.

Job Duties & Responsibilities - Essential Job Functions may include, but are not limited to, the following
  • Provides engineering expertise in the application of state-of-the-art technology to meet mission requirements.
  • Planning, developing and executing Operational Test Cases which validate Operational Suitability of Air traffic Control Communications Systems and evaluation of Air to Ground
  • Protocol Converter contractor test plans procedures and reports.
  • Develops and executes procedures for measurement of Internet Protocol (IP), analog and discrete signals such as: IP to analog or discrete signal conversion delay, voice delay, idle channel noise, impulse noise, AGC, intermodulation distortion, and encoding/decoding of EUROCAE ED-137 messaging.
  • Primary duty is support of technical performance testing for the Air-to-Ground Protocol Converter (Converts EUROCAE ED-137C VOIP audio and signaling to analog voice and discrete control signals for FAA Radios) and Ground-to-Ground Protocol Converters (Converts EUROCAE ED-137C VOIP audio and signaling to telecommunications trunk audio and signaling for interfacing between FAA ED-137 compliant VOIP Voice Communication legacy telecommunication trunks).
Qualifications:
  • Must have 20+ years’ experience in basic engineering concepts.
  • Knowledge of EUROCAE ED-137 and VoIP is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of current FAA Radio Control Equipment functionality and associated maintenance techniques via the Maintenance Data Terminal is highly desirable.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (computer or electrical) from a college or university with a degree curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and
  • Technology (ABET). Master’s Degree in related field may be substituted for Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of experience. PhD in related field may be substituted for Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of experience.

  • Work location: Atlantic City, NJ (The William J. Hughes Technical Center)
  • Work Hours: 40
  • Travel: 20%
  • Physical requirements:
  • Extended Computer Use: Regular and prolonged periods of working at a computer terminal.
  • Lifting and Carrying: Occasional lifting of equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds may be required during installations or maintenance.
  • Mobility: Ability to move around the office environment to access computer hardware, networking equipment, and server rooms.
    Dexterity: Manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate computer equipment, troubleshoot issues, and perform tasks requiring precision.
    Sitting/Standing: Both prolonged sitting and occasional standing may be required for troubleshooting and attending to system issues.
    Background check: Must have ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust.

Compensation (Pay Bands)

Salary at LST is determined by a wide array of factors, such as (but not limited to) education, certifications, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, location, and clearance level, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements and applicable employment laws. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only.
The projected compensation range for this position is provided within the posting and is based on full-time, 40 hour/week status. Part-time staff receive compensation at an hourly rate. The estimated minimum and maximum displayed represents the broadest range for this position (inclusive of high geographic and high clearance requirements) and is just one component of LSTs total compensation package for employees. ** In compliance with local laws, LS Technologies presents this reasonable compensation range as a guideline for roles in California, Colorado, New York, or Washington D.C.
