  • Knowledge of network impairment testing and reporting; metrics such as latency, jitter, packet loss.
  • Knowledge of Test & Evaluation (test plans, procedures, reports).
  • Experience with Wireshark or equivalent software.
  • ABET-accredited engineering degree; Master’s/PhD substitutions allowed for years of experience.

LS Technologies, a Tetra Tech Company, is seeking an Electrical Engineer with technical expertise to support the test, evaluation, and analysis of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Air Traffic Control Communication Systems.

Job Duties & Responsibilities - Essential Job Functions may include, but are not limited to, the following
  • Provides engineering expertise in the application of state-of-the-art technology to meet mission requirements.
  • Planning, developing and executing Operational Test Cases which validate Operational Suitability of Air traffic Control Communications Systems and evaluation of Air to Ground
  • Protocol Converter contractor test plans procedures and reports.
  • Develops and executes procedures for measurement of Internet Protocol (IP), analog and discrete signals such as: IP to analog or discrete signal conversion delay, voice delay, idle channel noise, impulse noise, AGC, intermodulation distortion, and encoding/decoding of EUROCAE ED-137 messaging.
  • Primary duty is support of technical performance testing for the Air-to-Ground Protocol Converter (Converts EUROCAE ED-137C VOIP audio and signaling to analog voice and discrete control signals for FAA Radios) and Ground-to-Ground Protocol Converters (Converts EUROCAE ED-137C VOIP audio and signaling to telecommunications trunk audio and signaling for interfacing between FAA ED-137 compliant VOIP Voice Communication legacy telecommunication trunks).
Qualifications:
  • Must have 5+ years' experience in basic engineering concepts.
  • TCP/IP protocol stack elements utilized in Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) communication systems (e.g. Session Initiation Protocol, Real Time Transport Protocol).
  • Knowledge of basic Linux commands.
  • Knowledge of IPv4 networking principles.
  • Knowledge of network impairment testing and reporting.Knowledge of communications equipment performance parameters such as latency, frequency response, jitter, packet loss, analog audio / discrete signals, VoIP audio levels, and audio delay
  • Knowledge of Test and Evaluation (test plans, procedures, conduct, problem identification, and reports)
  • Experience with Wireshark or equivalent software.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (computer or electrical) from a college or university with a degree curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Master's Degree in related field may be substituted for Bachelor's degree and 3 years of experience. PhD in related field may be substituted for Bachelor's degree and 7 years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • General awareness of EUROCAE ED-137C and ED-138 standards, and their applicability to the specification, design, development, and test of FAA NAS IP voice communication systems
  • National Instruments Lab VIEW software application development
  • Python programming language coding or other software development
  • Knowledge of IPv6 networking principles.
  • GL Comm application experience (e.g., MAPS, Voice Quality Test (VQT), VQUAD).
  • Knowledge and experience with Cisco switch configuration and operation.
  • Ground to ground telephony experience.
  • Knowledge of Environmental Test Standards and Methods (e.g., MIL-STD-810, Shock & Vibration Testing, EMI/EMC Testing, Humidity Testing, etc.).
  • Knowledge of Power Test Methods (e.g. Inrush current, power factor, and total harmonic distortion).
  • Knowledge of NAS communication system architecture.
  • Experience using CodeBeamer
Work Requirements:
  • Work location: Atlantic City, NJ (The William J. Hughes Technical Center)

  • Physical requirements:
  • Extended Computer Use: Regular and prolonged periods of working at a computer terminal.
  • Lifting and Carrying: Occasional lifting of equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds may be required during installations or maintenance.
  • Mobility: Ability to move around the office environment to access computer hardware, networking equipment, and server rooms.
    Dexterity: Manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate computer equipment, troubleshoot issues, and perform tasks requiring precision.
    Sitting/Standing: Both prolonged sitting and occasional standing may be required for troubleshooting and attending to system issues.
    Background check: Must have ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust.

Salary at LST is determined by a wide array of factors, such as (but not limited to) education, certifications, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, location, and clearance level, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements and applicable employment laws. The projected compensation range for this position is provided within the posting and is based on full-time, 40 hour/week status. Part-time staff receive compensation at an hourly rate.
