Job summary

The Ohio Department of Behavioral Health seeks a Vocational Specialist to support Northwest Ohio Behavioral Healthcare in Toledo. You will conduct screenings, develop plans, and coordinate participation in the Work Program to help clients gain employment.

This hourly role supports clients’ vocational goals, with responsibilities including documentation, collaboration with hospital teams, and delivering transferable job skills in a compassionate, recovery‑oriented environment.

Qualifications

• 30 months' experience counseling persons who are mentally ill or developmentally disabled.
• Undergraduate core program in human services (e.g., rehabilitation counseling, social work) plus 12 months counseling experience.
• Graduate core program in human services (e.g., rehabilitation counseling, social work, psychology).
• Alternative, equivalent evidence of the Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

Responsibilities

• Conduct vocational screenings, interviews, and assessments.
• Develop individualized vocational plans and teach transferable job skills.
• Coordinate and monitor client participation in Northwest Ohio Behavioral Healthcare Vocational Services “Work Program.”
• Document client progress and write routine progress notes.
• Support therapeutic activities and maintain attendance records.
• Escort clients to on‑ and off‑unit programs as needed.
• Serve on hospital committees and perform miscellaneous duties to support an integrated psychosocial rehabilitation approach.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
