The County of Imperial seeks a Vocational Nurse/Psychiatric Technician to support client care in a Behavioral Health facility. This entry-level role involves administering medications, providing therapeutic assistance, and coordinating services for clients in crisis. Ideal candidates will be licensed nurses with a commitment to patient care and teamwork.
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the supervision of an assigned supervisor, performs duties related to client care in a Behavioral Health facility, such as administering medications under a licensed physician's guidance; serving as the primary coordinator for services; providing assistance, information, and referrals to clients in crisis; determining medical necessity for patients in inpatient or outpatient care within a managed care system. Provides medical support and therapeutic assistance as part of a multidisciplinary team in a Behavioral Health facility or clinic.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
Vocational Nurse/Psychiatric Technician I is the entry-level classification, with incumbents assigned a caseload, able to administer psychiatric and nursing care under close supervision. Vocational Nurse/Psychiatric Technician II is the journey-level, capable of providing a wide range of care with minimal supervision. Vocational Nurse/Psychiatric Technician III is the advanced level, working independently with a large and varied caseload.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Must meet the licensing requirements for Psychiatric Technician or Licensed Vocational Nurse.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid license as a Licensed Vocational Nurse or Psychiatric Technician issued by the California State Board; current CPR certification; valid California Driver's License. A driver’s license may be required, and employees may need to drive their own vehicle and provide proof of insurance as per Vehicle Code VC § 160020.
