Job summary

Bridgewater State University’s EXCEL program is hiring a Vocational Education Coach to support students in vocational classes, study sessions, and internships across campus. You will provide 1:1 and group academic support, help with scheduling, organization, and planning, and collaborate with program staff in weekly meetings.

Undergraduate BSU students enrolled for at least six credits for Fall 2026 are eligible.

Qualifications

• Must be BSU undergraduate registered for at least six credits for Fall 2026.
• Preferred: experience with individuals with disabilities.
• Preferred: strong verbal and written communication.
• Preferred: ability to work with diverse student populations.
• Preferred: energetic, self-starter with multitasking ability.
• Preferred: maintain confidentiality.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and social media platforms.

Responsibilities

• Attend and support students in Vocational Classes.
• Attend and support students in study sessions.
• Provide 1:1 and group support to EXCEL students, Mon-Fri, up to 20 hrs per week.
• Attend and support EXCEL students in classes on and off BSU campus.
• Attend and support EXCEL students in internships.
• Collaborate with student and program staff at weekly check-in meetings.
• Meet bi-weekly with EXCEL staff for education coach check-ins.
• Provide ongoing academic support, e.g. study skills, scheduling, organization, planning.
• Complete program data collection forms.
• Participate in program activities and events.
• Complete and submit weekly anticipated schedule each Friday.
• Respond to substitute education coach opportunities promptly.
• Available to work in evenings.

Department Information:
The EXCEL Program at Bridgewater State University ( BSU ) is a fully-inclusive postsecondary program for young adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Students in the EXCEL program share the same experiences as BSU undergraduate students in the areas of academics, socialization, professional development, self-advocacy and independent living. The EXCEL Program offers three options for participation.With supports in place, BSU EXCEL students enroll in courses, take part in internships, socialize with peers and participate in campus clubs and activities.
Position Information:
The EXCEL program is proud to offer this student employment opportunity to undergraduate students interested in enhancing their academic experience here at BSU . Undergraduate students interested in working in service-oriented fields such as education, social work, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and counseling will truly benefit from the hands‑on experience they will gain through working with the students and staff in our program.

Vocational Education Coach Responsibilities:

Eligibility requirements:

• Must be a Bridgewater State University undergraduate student registered for a minimum of six credits for the Fall 2026 semester.
• Valid driver’s license and safe driving record

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with individuals with disabilities
• Sensitivity to student needs, concerns, and individual issues, as well as flexibility, patience and high professional integrity
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations of students
• Energetic, self-starter who can complete multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
• Fluency with Microsoft Office 365 and various social media platforms.

Physical Demands

An Education Coach must be prepared to spend an active day traveling around campus and accompanying the program student to class, internships, meetings, etc.
Office activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and interaction with computer equipment; Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 5 pounds.
