Job summary

Lilly is seeking a VMware ESX Platform Operations Engineer to support and automate a large-scale VMware-based IaaS infrastructure across multiple data centers. The role emphasizes reliability, automation, and cross‑team collaboration in a global enterprise environment.

Ideal candidates will have deep VMware and virtualization experience, plus familiarity with AI-enabled automation tools, and will work onsite in Indianapolis, IN.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or related technical field.
• 4+ years of experience as a VMware ESX / Platform Engineer.
• Demonstrated experience or exposure to AI-enabled automation tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, or similar).
• Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and operate VMware ESX-based IaaS infrastructure across enterprise environments.
• Automate operational tasks and improve availability using AI-powered tooling.
• Lead and mentor global operations SMEs and platform infra teams.
• Support multi-datacenter stretch clusters and ensure high availability for critical workloads.
• Collaborate across teams to improve observability and reliability of infrastructure.
