Job summary

SMASH specializes in placing talent with US-based clients and delivering enterprise VMware Cloud Foundation environments. This role is client-facing and involves designing, implementing, and supporting SDDC solutions on VMware stack in engagements across US clients.

You will lead architecture decisions, mentor consultants, and drive successful delivery while staying current with VMware Cloud Foundation releases and related technologies.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), including VCF 5.x and/or VCF 9.
• Strong expertise with VMware vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter.
• Hands-on experience with VMware NSX and vSAN.
• Experience administering and implementing SDDC Manager.
• Experience implementing enterprise VMware infrastructure solutions.
• Strong troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead customer workshops to gather technical requirements and define infrastructure solutions.
• Own the solution architecture and make design decisions for scalability, reliability, and security.
• Contribute to requirements gathering and design under the lead architect's direction.
• Document solution architectures, implementation procedures, and operational best practices.
• Deploy and configure VMware Cloud Foundation components, ensuring scalability and reliability.
• Implement and support vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, NSX, vSAN, and SDDC Manager environments.
• Automate infrastructure provisioning and lifecycle management using Terraform, PowerCLI, Ansible, Python, or similar.
• Configure and support VMware Aria Operations and Aria Automation solutions.
• Deploy and integrate VMware AVI Load Balancer and Kubernetes platforms (Tanzu / VKS) when applicable.
• Implement VMware security solutions, including vDefend and NSX Security.
• Troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues throughout implementation projects.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and client stakeholders to ensure successful delivery.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to consultants on the engagement.
• Act as the primary technical point of contact for client stakeholders.
• Stay current on VMware Cloud Foundation releases and emerging technologies.

About the Role

You'll design and deliver enterprise VMware Cloud Foundation environments for our clients — from requirements through to a running, documented, production-ready SDDC. This is a billable, customer-facing consulting role: you'll be on client engagements, not running a single internal platform.

Additional for Principal (L3)

• Demonstratedsolution architectureownership — you've defined and been accountable for enterprise VCF designs, not just executed them.

• Experience mentoring or providing technical leadership to a delivery team.
• Experience with VMware Aria Operations (vROps) and/or Aria Automation.
• Depth in automating VMware environments with Terraform, PowerCLI, Ansible, or Python.

Nice-to-haves (all levels)

• Experience with VMware AVI Load Balancer.
• Experience with VMware Tanzu, VKS, or Kubernetes platforms.
• Experience with VMware vDefend or NSX Security.
• VMware certifications such as VCP, VCAP, VCDX, or VMware Cloud Foundation certifications.
  • VCDX or VCAP is a meaningful signal for the Principal (L3) level.
