Job summary

National Radio Astronomy Observatory seeks a VLBA Station Specialist II-III for the Kitt Peak site in Tucson, AZ. This role involves hands‑on electronics, mechanical work, HVAC, data systems, and on‑site maintenance to ensure continuous astronomical data flow.

The position requires electronics experience, the ability to work at height, and a valid driver's license. The starting pay is $33.00–$44.00 per hour, with robust benefits and opportunities for long‑term assignment.

Qualifications

  • Associate of Science degree or equivalent in Electronics.
  • Two years of experience in Electronics or Electrical fields; five or more years may be considered for higher level.
  • May require five or more years of experience in Electronics training or Electrical fields, with experience in radio astronomy or telecommunications.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, inspect, test, troubleshoot, and repair the VLBA Station including the 25‑meter antenna.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance, lubrication, and inspections of mechanical and electronic systems.
  • Monitor emergency power, fire alarms, HVAC, and other site systems.
  • Prepare technical reports, charts, graphs, and schematics documenting equipment performance and failures.
  • May travel to other VLBA sites to support maintenance.
