Job description

Mercer University School of Medicine is seeking a highly qualified Vivarium and Research Lab Manager on the Columbus, GA campus. Responsibilities include managing and performing all activities within the animal vivarium, including animal husbandry and care, ensuring compliance with IACUC, OLAW, and USDA reporting requirements, maintaining and adhering to standard operating procedures and protocols, and working with a veterinarian and other facility managers as needed.

As Research Lab Manager, duties include managing and maintaining research laboratory facilities, ensuring proper and safe use of departmental equipment, monitoring adherence to departmental policies on research conduct, resource use, and disposal of materials, monitoring laboratory supplies usage, assisting in ordering supplies, and advising on equipment needs.

Qualifications require a bachelor's degree in biomedical sciences or related field with five years of laboratory experience including animal work, or a master's degree with two years of experience. Skills needed include proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, knowledge of laboratory animal care principles, record keeping, compliance with regulatory standards, writing and following SOPs, working with disinfectants, and ability to work rotating weekends and holidays.
