Job summary

AVP SEES Group seeks a fellowship-trained vitreoretinal surgeon to join an established ophthalmology practice in Chattanooga, Tennessee. This opportunity leverages an existing demand and referral network to build a full practice within six to twelve months.

Both experienced surgeons and graduating fellows are encouraged to apply, with access to multiple clinical locations and an organization-owned ASC. Collaborative, physician-led care supports long-term presence in the Chattanooga market.

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree is required.
• Completion of an accredited ophthalmology residency.
• Completion of, or current enrollment in, a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship.
• Board-certified or board-eligible in ophthalmology; TN license eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and treat diseases of the retina, vitreous, and macula.
• Perform intravitreal injections and retinal laser procedures.
• Conduct Pars plana vitrectomy and other vitreoretinal surgeries.
• Coordinate postoperative care with referring providers.
• Cover two to three offices and two ambulatory surgery centers.
• Engage in clinical education and community outreach.

Job description

AVP SEES Group is seeking a fellowship-trained vitreoretinal surgeon to join an established ophthalmology practice in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

This opportunity is supported by existing patient demand and a referral network of approximately 300 providers, primarily community optometrists. The need results from a physician transitioning to another market within the organization, providing the incoming surgeon with an established base of demand and the opportunity to develop a full practice within approximately six to twelve months.

Both experienced vitreoretinal surgeons and graduating fellows are encouraged to apply.

Clinical Responsibilities

The vitreoretinal surgeon will evaluate and treat medical and surgical diseases of the retina, vitreous, and macula. The anticipated scope includes:

• Diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema
• Retinal vascular disease
• Retinal tears and detachments
• Vitreous hemorrhage and other vitreoretinal disorders
• Macular holes, epiretinal membranes, and other macular conditions
• Intravitreal injections and retinal laser procedures
• Pars plana vitrectomy and other vitreoretinal surgical procedures
• Urgent and complex retina referrals
• Postoperative care and coordination with referring providers
• Evidence-based adoption of evolving diagnostic and surgical technologies
• Monday through Friday schedule, generally 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
• Approximately 25-50 patients per clinic day, depending on schedule and case mix
• Coverage across approximately two to three offices and two ambulatory surgery centers
• Access to an organization-owned ASC with two operating rooms and an additional procedure room
• Diagnostic capabilities that include OCT, fundus photography, B-scan ultrasonography, visual fields, and optical biometry
• Ophthalmic technician support
• Shared group call, generally one week every four to five weeks

Referral Relationships and Community Presence

The practice is highly referral-driven. The successful physician will maintain clear, timely communication with referring providers and support clinically appropriate shared-care and co-management relationships.

The physician will also have opportunities to develop relationships with regional optometrists, ophthalmologists, and other medical providers through clinical education, professional meetings, community outreach, teaching, speaking, or mentorship.

Required Qualifications

• MD or DO degree
• Completion of an accredited ophthalmology residency
• Completion of, or current enrollment in, a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship
• Board-certified or board-eligible in ophthalmology
• Eligible to obtain an unrestricted Tennessee medical license
• Demonstrated medical and surgical judgment
• Commitment to ethical, evidence-based, patient-centered care
• Effective communication with patients, colleagues, and referring providers
• Interest in building a long-term practice in the Chattanooga market
