The Cooperstown Graduate Program at the State University of New York at Oneonta invites applications for a full-time, visiting professor of museum administration beginning Fall 2025. Expectations include, but are not limited to teaching, student advisement, serving on the admissions committee, leading field trips, continuing professional development and working with a new program on not-for profit management
Founded in 1964, the Cooperstown Graduate Program (CGP) is one of the premier programs in the United States for the training of museum professionals. The program's two-year graduate course of study leads to a Master of Arts in Museum Studies. There are two tracks?history and science. Museum Administration is a key component of the curriculum. To be successful in any museum position students must know how to work in teams, understand budgets, and manage staff and programs. CGP graduates enter the museum field with a strong background in the diverse aspects of museum work and the confidence to use their knowledge and experiences to serve the public, become leaders of sustainable institutions. Classes at CGP are project-based and experiential. The program is rigorous, and students must master classes in an academic discipline and professional training.
Mission: The Cooperstown Graduate Program trains creative, entrepreneurial museum leaders committed to generating programs and services for the public good. CGP-trained professionals dedicate themselves to the development of strong institutions that play a central role in their communities, encouraging broad public audiences to use artifacts and the study of art, history, and science as a catalyst for social change.
